Yes, the clearance from the back wall sure is an issue, but I can`t change it.
Also the short listening distance...
But: "Better" speaker sound "better", despite the setup is crap and "ruins the midrange"...
I also think that a smaller woofer (4"?) could
a) produce enough bass (bass is anyway a different thing in this way of setup/ nearfield listening)
b) produce finer midrange.
Therefore the title of this track asks for the best size of midwoofer...
Any suggestions for high quality speaker with 4" midwoofer??
Yes, I will look for the designs of Rolph Smulders
No, I never heard a on-wall-speaker. I think they are probably not for me beause I often rotate the speakers that they go direct to my ears (0°) - this is impossible with on-wa--speakers, I think

RL906 - I owned them 2 times, some years ago, think 10 or 12 years ago. I found them a bit boring. I also owned ME25 and MO-2, both sounded better to me. MO-2 are very natural and I really love some aspects of them - but I don`t want the neutral, tool-like sound anymore. I want some speakers more easy to listen to.
ATC - I had ACM11 and ACM19 on my desk. Both really good, best midrange I ever had with the SCM19 (remember my strange nearfield/no space between Speakers an wall-setup!!) - but I got - somehow - problems with my ears. I have Tinnitus/ringing in my ears for more than a year now. And with the ATC these problems I think got bigger. I don`t know what the specialty with these speakers could habe been - maybe the big(ger) Midwoofer so near to my ears?
-> Therefore the question of my thread ist: Best size for midwoofer for my situation
Amphion - never heard them personally but maybe they are to bright for me. I also don`t like the mentioned KEF LS50...
I sayed it again: I don`t look for speaker which messure perfect, I am looking for a more beauty and easy listening style

As I have 15w+9800 this tw is ones of the best classic a really an upgrade of my build xo with 9700 some year before Troels, I put is xo and is a really great speaker ! the 15w is an animal on bassYes, the clearance from the back wall sure is an issue, but I can`t change it.

there is an mk2 too with time-alignment and 12db vs 18db of my
you cannot goes wrong....with my Pass 10w class A amp diyaudio kit2 sound wonderfull
Designs that also came to my mind is the Illuminata from Hobby HiFi (published in 2013/2) or the Nada from Klang&Ton (2011/4). The designs from both German magazines are well-documented with measurements. Don't know if you're picky on using the Illuminator 15 instead of the Revelator 15. And I don't think a lot has happened since in more traditional design, if you would have second thoughts on designs from a decade ago.
illuminator is better on mid for sure ,bass ? but my the troels XO is really good on phase tracking on the voice ...Designs that also came to my mind is the Illuminata from Hobby HiFi (published in 2013/2) or the Nada from Klang&Ton (2011/4). my next will be ellitpticor mid ie 3way but this il lovely too http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Illuminator-71.htm
Could you describe a pair of speakers that you have heard, that fits with what you are looking for? Because I don't understand the word "beautiful" listening style.I sayed it again: I don`t look for speaker which messure perfect, I am looking for a more beauty and easy listening style
Illuminata from Hobby Hifi is quite expensive, about 1900 Euro for both.
I think I will go for the 15W Revelator Design from AOS. This uses an Illuminator Tweeter. Alternavly there was the same speaker with the 18W Revelator - but with the same Tweeter. So I could change easyly.
But I think the 15W is the best size for my situation.
I now have a Seas 2-Way with the ER15RLY and the 22TAF/G-Tweeter on my desktop. It plays quite nice, not as nice as the ATC (by far...) but its more relaxed for my ears. I think this woofersize is better for me.
I am very interested in the Jeff Bagby creations and also in the Carrera-Speaker but these kits are not so easy to order from Deutschland.
Thats for your help

Digitalthor:
Maybe it means a bit more sounding. More f2-Klirr like in a Tube Amp (Harmonic distortions) Or a little warmer bass
Schönspieler vs. neutral monitor tool
Somethink like that:
Maybe the opposit of the "best" (messured) 2 way desktop speaker Neumann KH120

Ok. Maybe you just need a filter update on the Seas speakers you already have?Digitalthor:

Alternatively, you could add a bit of EQ, to see if the speaker is fine, but simply needs a slight adjustment to suit your taste.
This could easily be tested with something like APO's software, while playing music from any computer:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/
I use EQ, sometimes more, sometimes less.
I have tried Equalizer APO but I think it had problems with with the ASIO Output. I remember I didn`t get this problem solved.
I use EQ in my Playersoftware (Musicbee). I also got Foobar.

Speaking specifically from my own experience, the 15W will do wonderful in a small room. No need to go down to a 4" driver. Also for the life of me, I can't figure out why someone is trying to talk you out of it. ?? It has a beautiful midrange and goes extremely low in the bass department at the same time. Again, I elected to go sealed with a sub to limit intermodulation distortion but ported it will go below 40Hz which is amazing for a 5" driver. No need really to go to a larger driver than that.I think I will go for the 15W Revelator Design from AOS. This uses an Illuminator Tweeter. Note that when a design is open source, there is no need to order from the country of origin - you can simply source all the parts from a distributor near you.
I would also suggest that you do some research into cabinet design and build the best box you are able to. It really helps when you are using such high quality drivers.

There is an easier way.

Which design is this? Actually the ER15 and the ER18 do hold their own, in correct designed systems. But while I know of some proven designs with the ER18 (Mark K and John 'Zaph' Krutke), I cannot think of any with the ER15.I now have a Seas 2-Way with the ER15RLY and the 22TAF/G-Tweeter on my desktop.
I built these ERGO IXs with

Yes! That is a fantastic driver in a sealed enclosure. If you go for the 15W, make it the 15W/8530K-01 for sealed boxes and your intended room placement.
There is no other option besides 4ohm/8ohm on the 18W.

may i suggest what you are looking for in all those speakers youve had is real dynamics. real dynamics are not present in low-eff 6" woofers imo.
a good analogy would be: you keep your corolla car but put in premium gas, in the hope that the premium gas will turn your 4 cylinder into a 8 cylinder
Oh, that’s not a bad one, I checked the build report. If you want to go better than this, be prepared to build better enclosures, especially the baffle shape and chamfers or facets deserve attention. Just another rectangular speaker won’t perform much better.
Huh? There is a 15W4531G00…If you go for the 15W, make it the 15W/8530K-01 for sealed boxes and your intended room placement.
