Does it still hum with input shorted ?

Try grounding the zero volt line and see if hum goes away.

I got rid of the hum 🙂
I will use that type of cable, it will be a shirt length, 5cm or so.

What pot shall i put at the input of the preamp, before C5? Does it make a diffrence wether i use 50k log or 500k log? The input source is the laptop...

So, using a higher resistance potentiometer for volume will cause it to act more like an on/off switch? With lower value, i can fine tune the volume?

50k Log is OK for volume? (Before C5)

The 12au7 should drive the tone stack. if this happens then more standard 100k pots can be used.
I used 6922 to drive pioneer SX780 tone stack and fed output into amplifier as installed
