ALCHIMY.

Hi,

Frank, I was not specifically meaning lacquer (C37 etc), but mods here do have an effect in my experience.

C38 Eric?

Don't underestimate Peter Daniel...he knows his metal tables.

Yes,I'm still kidding...high time to call OZ...damn those timezones...

Do you remember the P2P wiring thread Eric?🙂

Plus ça change, 😉

C38 ? - Nah, Vat 69.
I have never underestimated Peter, and I expect I never will.
I find Pete to have good ears, an open mind and a willing disposition - unlike some of the other boneheads around here.
Umm, which P-P wiring thread ? - there have been a few.

Eric / - Respectful of fellow respectful fellows.

PS - Frank, I am home now - email me and I'll get off my land line.

So a "bonehead" is someone who doesn't agree with your point of view?

Very "respectful"; a word you presumably found in the same dictionary as "nah" whatever that is.

No I do not believe that there is a sonic difference with treated aluminium pot shafts; not do I believe anyone can hear this sort of thing.

And no, I will not be trying any of this medicine show rubbish

?

Mr Feedback : 'Empty Vessels make most noise ' , you have been the most vocal so it must take one to know one . 'boneheads' = lack of respect . You should really read before writing , a while ago you stated I mentioned something about aluminium knobs which I did not , take deep breaths before replying to messages , you're not doing yourself any favours

Treating the aluminium shaft of a standard volume pot will indeed alter sonics, as will fitting a different volume knob.
Is this my quote that you mean ? - If it is you need to do some back reading.
Sure I am being vocal, because some of you just do not get it.
Peter was being perfectly vocal too -
That's why I'm using only brass shafts now.
You see, some of us have tried the experiments and found interesting results, and some have not, and it is these types that I refer to as 'boneheads making the most noise' (the ignorant making protest at things they know or understand little or nothing about).

Audio reproduction is not that difficult if approached with open ears, and an open mind.
A reasonably good knowledge of electrics, electronics, physics, chemistry, physiology, biochemistry, and psychology helps too.

Eric / - Perfectly comfortable in my assertions here.

"Hollow State Practitioner" Indeed...

From YOUR profile.....
telecom/datacomms engineer

Did I read this wrong too !.

That was not intended as an insult, more so a statement that it is mostly unsual to find a communications/telecommunications/datacommunications design engineer that has musicians ears = understands the concept of musical perfect pitch.
Jocko and Fred are members that I would include in this group.
Guys like Peter, although not engineers, do grasp this concept, and easily.

I am in between, in the sense that I get to hear a million examples of musicians equipment and audio reproduction equipment with whatever music I feel like, as loud as I feel like, as many A/B comparisons as I feel like, and whenever I feel like, and in the other sense that I get to study the schematics, physical implementations and sonic resultants of all this gear, and I am in a position to perform temporary modifications on a lot of examples of audio equipment, and from this you get to observe, understand and prove interesting correlations.

Tell us a little more about your job then......

Eric / - Show us your mettle.

Hi Eric,
The P2P thread I referred to :
HH.
Strange enough I found it when doing a search using the keywords C37. :cannotbe:
LOL.
Cheers,😉

Ahhh, that takes me back - I just read the whole thing just now and refeshed my memory - I think that thread included my very first post.
There was some good and educational stuff going on there till it dried up - Jocko and Fred, where are you now ?.

Eric.

Eric,

it is mostly unsual to find a communications/telecommunications/datacommunications design engineer that has musicians ears = understands the concept of musical perfect pitch.
I hope you are not suggesting that "Music Professionals" are automatically better at judging quality.
I've worked half my life with these people, and whilst some are brilliant, most are just busy doing their job, and have their ears open only for the predictable defects. Some are totally opinionated😉
On the other hand, many of the "Amateurs" I have had the pleasure of meeting have had open minds and 2 good ears. It is true that some are lacking in the electronics knowledge dept, and so have difficulties, but many are compitent engineers of another field.

Cheers,
