Onsemi announced that KSA1381ESTU is end of life with a last order date of Jan 5, 2025. Is there any interest in a group buy for these?
My thought is to combine it with a group buy of 2SC3503E which is available from Rochester Electronics (link here), but only in large quantities (1000+). This makes for a good pairing as KSC3503 is currently only available in D grade.
Lot sizes will be 100 pieces of each device.
As this would be a large cash outlay for the initial purchase, we'd probably need to have money up front. We'd have to backorder them as both Mouser and Digikey are currently out of stock, but accepting backorders. Maybe it'll arrive in time for Christmas.
I will keep the first post updated with anyone interested in participating.
PRICING UPDATE:
Pricing factors in the price to order, taxes, shipping and repacking materials with a bit of a bump so I don't hopefully loose money on this.
Round 1: $30/100. For example, 100 x 2SC3503E and 100 x KSA1381E would be $60 + shipping.
Round 2: $30/100 for 2SC3503E and $35/100 for KSA1381E. The higher price in round 2 for KSA1381E is due to a price hike on Mouser's end.
SHIPPING:
For shipping, US will be $5. International will be $20 if the quantity is 100/100. If over this, I'll PM an estimate. This is due to the weight threshold where international shipping prices increase.
VAT: If there is VAT in your country, I understand this will be collected from the recipient, not paid by me.
TIMING UPDATE:
The Mouser order for KSA1381ESTU has been placed. Its backordered at Mouser with a restock date of 11/11/2024 (if Mousers date is accurate).
Domestic orders arrive in the second half of November.
International orders will go out via USPS international which shows shipping times of 1 to 4 weeks.
PAYMENT:
I'll send payment info once I get close to being able to ship. I have PayPal and Venmo.
April 2025 UPDATE:
The Mouser order for KSA1381E failed to come through. Mouser canceled the order despite it being placed months ahead of the final order deadline. It's unclear if this is a Mouser or OnSemi issue. We looked extensively for alternate sources of KSA1381E but could not locate anything that was cost effective. It was determined that KEC KTA1381Y was the next best alternative.
April 20, 2025: Profusion order for KEC KTA1381Y placed.
April 25, 2025: Profusion order received
April 30, 2025: Estimated Ship Date for Round 1 order (for those that have paid)
Early May: Payment instructions to be sent for Round 2 participants
ROUND 1: Closed for new participants (Shipping April 30 ,2025)
ROUND 2: Closed for new participants (Shipping early May 2025)
ROUND 3: Open for new participants (based on available stock)

I'd be interested if there are enough other folks.
Any issues using two different manufacturers for those looking to match?

I updated Post #1 with those expressing interest.
Regarding shipping
Packing: These appear to be in tube packaging. This is likely impractical to use for dividing and shipping out. Mainly to the odd package size (length) which increases shipping costs. We'll probably repackaging into bags. I weight 200 TO-126 devices I have and these came to 10oz. With a box added, the package will probably weight 1.0lb to 1.5lb. This affects the international shipping costs.
North America: Rates from the North America to North America look to be under $10 for packaging and shipping
EU: Rates seem to be $30 to $40 if I ship the lots off individually. I checked the price to ship one larger single parcel to the UK. It comes to $50 to $60 for the current 6 lots ($10 per lot). And then add whatever the reshipping cost is. So there is some savings, but it would increase if we get more interest. I'm not very familiar with VAT... but it looks like it would be paid by the recipient before the package can be delivered.
Other: Shipping to Australia looks to be $40.
Regarding timing
DigiKey and Mouse are both out of stock. So we'll likely be putting a backorder in. Current lead times are showing fulfillment in late November. We'll likely order from Mouser as they are a bit cheaper.
I think it would be best if we can get our order in soon. I'd like to get commitments from anyone else interested by Sunday October 6th. Ideally, we'd be purchasing 2,000 KSA1381ESTU. The price per 100 for KSA1381ESTU drops from $32.10 to $23.33. 2SC3503E is $25.14 per 100 as long as we order at least 1,000.

For those interested, one thing to consider. I believe the Wolverine project assessed matching of 2SC3503E & KSA1381E and found that it was more difficult to find matched pairs vs the 2SC3503E & 2SA1381E and KSC3503E & KSA1381E combinations.
If you are looking for devices in the same grade or "loose" matching, these will be fine. But if you need truly matched pairs, it may be more difficult to obtain from 2SC3503E & KSA1381E. Meaning, the matching yield will likely be lower.

Regarding VAT, the order would include US VAT because it is not possible to separate the ordered parts for export from others when you order in US as any normal order.
If I order directly from Mouser /Digikey etc they do not extract US VAT, and they actually ship all duties paied to Sweden. But that is an export. Actually when I order above aproximately 60 US$ they forfeit shipment costs and only adding duties,VAT and other fees. They ahve very good deals with logistics.
VAT and duties and fees would be payable by the recipient normally, and you would have to sign a CN22 customs declaration listing the value of shipmen.
Fees is typically the handling costs of the shipping company for VAT and duties.
If shipping to UK there is some of these, reshipping from UK to EU entails actually a second VAT round (actually third including first) as UK is no longer EU.
I am not familiar with UK import taxes, VAT leavy etc after Brexit. Intra EU nothing more than shipping is added.
There is a trade off with shipping costs and splitting the shipment pan-Atlantic into two different, UK and EU. And possibly splitting even more intra EU as you mentioning.
It is a very good idea for a group buy, but perhaps it should be split into EU and US and (UK) ?
Thought it was worth mentioning 🙂

Thank you @rikkitikkitavi for the comments on Sales Tax & VAT. It is true that there will be some double dipping on taxes if a single order is placed from the USA. I am in the sate of Tennessee which has one of the highest sales tax rates (9.25%). @birdbox offered to help, but he is in Washington which has an even higher tax rate. And @uptownsquash is also in Tennessee. So, with the current participants, we're looking at a 9.25% US tax rate + any international VAT paid by the receiver.
Regarding splitting the buy into North America and Europe orders. We'd ideally place orders with suppliers in increments of 2000 for best prices. We do not have enough interest at this point to split the order.

I plan to put the order is soon. For international, if I can keep the weight to 8oz or less it should be $20 for packaging and shipping. If its over this by even an ounce, shipping doubles. I weighed some TO-126 devices I have and 200 should weight 6 oz. small boxes for this look to be 1 to 1.5 ounces in weight. Might be able to just slip under the 8oz threshold. Worst case is I'll have to reduce the lot sizes to make weight and keep shipping costs down.
Its a fairly large outlay to put this order in. For those that have expressed interest, can you please PM me to confirm your intent and provide your address so I can verify that I can ship to you for $20.
