It was remarkable performance of the classic model I heared back than. Plus you can cook spaghetti on it while playing Verdi operas.
Oh yes it did sound excellent ... when it worked. The 2023 one seems Chinese built so things can only get better 🙂 Curious: the exact same and often criticized preamp stage with TL072 has been incorporated just like the T beam construction for the heatsink (used to be spread with a thick layer of dried out heatsink paste).
Note: the A1 was a very musical device but I repaired them enough to avoid them.

I had one, and I can confirm that is sounded so good!
I separated (I had it made by the company that imported it from GB) the preamp section from the power amp section to use it as a "preamp" (may be it was just a passive one) along with a (reletively cheap) NAD power amp whose name I can’t remember at all with type 300W RMS per channel.
The couple didn’t really like each other very much, but A1 effectively warmed up so much that in winter we all sat around it!
The inside of the one you posted seems just like new...

Cough..... it is new. It is the 2023 version as in the thread title. There already was an A1X reintroduction in the past and now a 2023 A1. Never change a winning team 😀

The one I had never broke and I resell it losing not too much, it was very well regarded at the time, and it seems that it still is.

Good idea. I'll make another one too. Just noticed that MF reintroduced A1 again which brought back fond memories of exploding caps and burnt woofers. This device nearly cost me an eye so I think my criticism is justified. Probably its popularity is driven partly by the famous name behind the design and the class A mysticism around it. That really works OK marketing wise even when devices break down way more than the average. It just works like that, no one trusts a nearly perfect design by an unknown person. Crappy devices (of which most have gone to recycling) by a famous name keep high value and are cherished even when they're totally defective. I was asked various times to repair these even when they were clear goners.

I did not understand where you specify this though.
Sorry but then the sentences then are wrongly put. You had the preamp separated from the power amplifier and connected it to a NAD amplifier. Then you mentioned it heating up the house. Many will understand the same as I did.

I read that you claims that many old ones were broken, but this does not exclude that the new one is also broken. IMO

To be honest I do not precisely remember that event, since ages are passed now...
Being in Pure Class A and not having a separate switch for the final section might have warmed the same in your opinion?

As a technically orientated person I would have cutoff supply lines if I did not need the power amplifier section to avoid energy loss and useless heat. The energy loss and generated heat make sense when one uses the class A power amplifier of course as they're part of the deal.

Its nick was pretty much the same here too.
However it was really impressive the heat that emanated all the top heatsink, it was literally untouchable, maybe that’s why the breakdowns were so frequent.
On the other hand it was nice enough aesthetically, at least I liked it.

Not maybe but for sure. I recall the first versions to have volume potentiometers and source selector switches going bad because of the heat. The electrolytic caps unsuitable for the heat launching like missiles out of a submarine.....
Love hate relationship really as I still think they're beautiful. I forgot but there also was a 2008 A1 revival model. Till this years model 200.000 have been sold which might explain the reintroduction in 2023.
