Looking for the "full range" driver in a 2 way OB setup. Bass driver is a GW-212/4 which I will XO around 700Hz or so max. Not sure which way to go. I don't need a ton of power so that opens things up. Would prefer decent efficiency if possible. I've seen a lot of weirdness around ~3-4" full range woofers and even some coaxials.... kind of thinking about this Hi-Vi DMB-A full range soft dome:

HF extension is just OK but I mainly listen to old music anyway (plus my amps have DSP). I have no idea if this is actually good though. Just looking for some ideas.

What is a lot of weirdness? And what drives have you ruled out?I've seen a lot of weirdness around ~3-4" full range woofers and even some coaxials....
I have built a fair number of OBs with 3-8” full range drivers. I even have a long running thread about it.
I would not run that HiVi that low. Its Fs is 700 Hz, and you typically want to stay above that by a decent margin. Xmax on large domes tends to be a bit puny also. If you're interested in an open baffle, it seems like an odd choice since it has a sealed cup.
Peerless TG9FD10-04 is a pretty good option for a low cost, wide bandwidth, low power situation.

The HiVi 2" domes are 850Hz+ at best, usually nuking the Fs in the process.
If you are looking 3-4" size, and want the sensitivity, then the Dynavox whizzered full ranges apply, Faital Pro and Lavoce apply, and so does PRV.
I recommend the PRV 4MR60-4 4" midbass. I've used it, and it sounds great from 100-4k sealed in 2 ltrs.
As long as you remove the xmax from the equation, then you are likely good open baffle from 500Hz+.

My favourites, Mark Audio Alpair 5.2/3 and Fostex FF85wk are almost that cheap.
The CHN-50 is close to the Alpairs in a cheap basket that yeilds a dirt cheap price.

@cheapvega , it is Christmass, make to yourself a gift 🙂 with sota QP and proven design which is matching your roadmap : https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/fast-fun-inexpensive-ob-project.110583/post-1332472
define "best"!
maybe a solution, but crossover a little bit complicate,

How is the soundstage of such planar crossed that low ?
Does the op need easy driver to filter passive then EQ with his DSP amp or is it fully active cross-over ? This can enter in the equation too about the choice.

Fountek fr88ex
I have a box with 4 good ones, and a few not so goos ones for the pre-Neo price rise.
It does have issues up top.
