Good day
Currently i have pretty good modern hybrid system with radian 950+k402 on top and bass reflex low section.
But i`m going to grow a bit)
I`d like to try something like western electric 555 driver + we15 horn, but originals are too expensive for me and i`m a bit scared of 5 watt maximum power handling.
Horns aren`t a problem because there are people in my country (Ukraine) that are making we15 clones for much cheaper. The main difficulty are drivers.
I am looking at clones like lamar audio and G.I.P.( don`t know more, maybe you can recommend other).
And i have a few questions:
1)Maybe someone was able to hear them and can tell me how do they compare with original we555 and more modern drivers?
2)If someone used such a deep horn, how did you manage with time delay between woofer and driver?
3)I have read Geddes and many other literature about horns and all of them share the same opinion that such a long horn can`t sound good. Is it true? I have no possibility to listen them, aren`t they just a cool vintage stuff that sounds bad?
Would be very grateful for any thoughts of more experienced colleagues

IME, long horns sound better. And I've heard a few. I don't care for the sound of short horns and wave-guides With long curled horns like the WE-15A what you lose is top end. So you do that with another horn, no big deal.
I know of some 555 clones, let me find them for you.

I suppose that you have seen these:

Thanks for your answer
Top end isn't a problem since i will use tweeter
I just want to cover all voice diapason with one driver, and it is not possible with radian.
I haven't see it before, thanks
Maybe someone was able to listen lamar audio m1?
Or know prices of g.i.p. drivers?
How much does the Lamar cost. I think the Germain 666 drives are around 6000 Euro.
So I'll never own a pair of those. 😀
I have heard GOTO compression drivers and they are very nice.

I'd like to see small neo driver with similar membrane geometry rather than replica. Currently I'm making JMLC 42Hz horn bent like Sato horn. It is similar to WE15A. I can make WE15A but I don't have drawings. Anyone have?
I’m thinking exactly about lamar m1

How they measured such a response? I doubt long bent horn can do anything above 1,5kHz. I would rather use large waveguide above.
Jacek, you had many drivers and waveguides/horns, in your opinion, is it possible that lamar m1 + we15 play midrange better than my radian with k402?Measurement with1W input on rated impedance @ 1m distance on axis coupled to a WE15A horn
I think it's about proper equalization. I haven't used long bent horns yet. I'm doing this horns for others. One is in Seck (Germany) and speak Russian. At home I use Quad ESL57 which is very transparent and good reference point.
Different strokes, I MUCH prefer a short waveguide to the longer horns I've heard. But I've never heard a WE15 (at least not in good conditions), so maybe my opinion isn't valid. But the very worst midrange horn I've run into was a long exponential horn in a K-horn clone. The best I've heard was a short waveguide configured in a multi-entrant system. Before spending silly money, I'd be sure to get a listen (or at least be sure you can resell without a major loss of money).
The WE-15A was part of the most astounding audio system I've ever heard. And I've heard a few. An experience to make one think "How can speakers do that?" I'm not sure that whether I was lucky or unlucky to hear them.
I don't consider the WE-15A (or its near relatives) a fullrange speaker. But used within its natural bandwidth with support from other good parts, it's beyond compare.

Horns with well rounded bends have much wider range than do horns with flat reflectors which in fact act to filter the response above the bass range. Bass horns don't need any deflectors in the bends.
Pano, as you're one of a few that was able to hear them live, can you tell more about genre limitations we15 has?The WE-15A was part of the most astounding audio system I've ever heard. I hope we555 or analogues sounds better than k55, because i have heard k55 and it sounds poor in comparison with radian

So this one should perform better than squarish WE15A?
I can build WE15A if someone would like to test.
