Pearl Acoustic Sibelius

I always request Dave is referenced in commercial work, even if a design is done independently, as there will always be some kind of involvement somewhere along the line, even if it isn't in the first stages.

It's a pity the black edition of Southwind couldn't be finished in time for the show as it's a beauty. A number of partnering designs + some others are also in the works for EBS so they're worth keeping an eye on. Like Dave, I don't normally name-check clients or companies I consult for except to avoid / explain conflict of interest, but since it's been raised & these are commercial speakers rather than components etc., that shouldn't be a problem as we're DIYers here rather than buying commercial gear.

I hope I didn't put a wrong foot forward
I thought, maybe, builders might be inspired by where others have gone with your concepts.
I also thought you might like to know how people are leveraging your names. (you mightn't have been aware and need to correct the record).

Dave's influence doesn't seem to have extended to Enabling the cone unless the cone has the alternative coating treatment. Enabl might have suited the baroqueness of the cabinet!

Not at all & very much appreciated. I can confirm Eastern Bay Sound is absolutely legitimate though, with to date all the acoustic design work done by me. They're a great small company that's much more interested in doing something interesting & also helping local businesses than turning big profits, and Buff [founder] is one of the nicest, most genuine people you could hope to meet. I'm actually having a call with him later today to discuss upcoming products, including one that's more a personal project of my own that I think will sit well with the range & I'm hoping to twist his arm at including. 😉

After watching the Stereophile interview with Harley, I’m inclined to suggest that Mark or one of his spokespersons might want to clarify the operating principles of this class of drivers? It seems to me that he was struggling with his descriptions, or maybe it’s just me?

I have been enjoying the beautiful, fresh and natural sound of my Sibelius clones with the Alpair 10.2 for a few months now. I will post the final drawings, damping information and measurements of the Alpair 10.2 compared to measurements of the original Sibelius driver (both at close range).
Excellent👏 can you also tell us how much is the total cost to build these beauties?

I only watched the first couple of minutes, but what's his name from Stereopile said something about running on fumes, as it was the end of the day. Sunday? So I'm guessing Harley was probably getting pretty tired too.

Their website only lists two models - the standmount and Skeg subwoofer.

Scott, they did spell your name correctly at least once 🙄
Yes, that's all they / we have at the moment -those are their first releases.

I did have a laugh about that -but no big deal about the name typos -I'd rather the intent was good and a few mistakes on that rather than the other way around. As I say, Buff's a [very] decent guy and one of the ones who are genuinely worth supporting; he's simply doing this because he wants to. He doesn't need to -he's a successful businessman in a completely different field.

I have done measurements at short distance of the original Sibelius driver (ed) versus the Alpair 10.2. At short distance the original driver does a bit better and the differences disappear as the distance of the measurement increases. No idea if the differences are audible. It is clear that the Pearl Acoustics driver is similar to the 10.2.

The cost of building a set of Sibelius speakers depends mainly on the type of wood you choose. For 32mm birch plywood ready-made mitered I pay 550 euros. For 32mm oak that is more than 1000 euros. If you can miter saw it yourself it will be about 200 euros cheaper, I think. Then some costs for damping material, glue, cabling, speaker terminals. Let's say 200,-. and not to forget the Alpair 10.2 or 10.3 drivers. These are no longer produced, so you have to look for them. I myself still have new 10.2 gold drivers left and for sale. I ordered the 5mm thick steel speaker base plates from a steel company that can laser. I paid 100,- (cash) for that. And then there are spikes from China. All in all, not a cheap DIY project, but you will have one of the very best speakers for the living room or listening room at home!

Well, that's because it is -as I've said before, it's based on the 10.2 and 10.3 with modifications to the motor design. No secret about that.
