I want to thank Thorsten L and all the other people who have helped me before in the old thread! I have learned a lot
So! I have been in contact with two smal company’s ! Who make TDA 1541 Dacs! I will not! Name these company’s as I do not want to hurt them in any way.
But this is the thing… one charges around 2000 usd (in SEK)for the finest they could produce wich I thought was quite expensive for that old chip. Don’t get me wrong but I love the TDA 1541 sound but.. yeah it’s still old…
But the other one is charging 8700 USD!!!!!!!!!!! 😱🤯 … I mean come on!!!!….
Is this really serious?!? … and top on that.. the expensive producer is saying that the “cheap” producer are making crappy Dacs… that is not serious at all… if you ask me…
I do love those old Dacs.. but still if one is going on measurements Topping D90 has the best measurements in the world… and some evidence to back it up. And it cost around 1100usd… am I to believe some hokus pokus from some dude(Rude also btw) that make this Dacs.. in a smal factory or something.. with no evidence and old tech around the TDA 1541 and almost 9000usd…. Naahh…
Could someone invite Amir from Audio science review on this? I want him in this discussion!
And love to see other people’s opinions! Could there reallllly be a difference in 2000 to 8700!?!? Or is it just… fantasy

Most DACs I have heard that ''Measure Perfectly'', sound bloody awful, to me.
Give me an ''imperfect'' TDA1541 any day of the week.

Imo this more you being in a magic MAGA (make audio great again) with religious argument, here : the noise floor and the holy jitter! It's like the price. In audio brand quality is not always correlated with the price. There is a lot of marketing. And same in the comunauty everywhere. I would say that is not because Amir Shares Reviews, that all has a scientifical validation (there is more science here). It is smore complicate than just SINAD.
What I can say is, with 9000 I will offer me a Mola Mola and not the Big expensive TDA1541A. But at 2 000, the TDA1541A if the guy knows his stuff could be more musical than many modern DACS twice the price.

And again .. I love the TDA 1541! … but it has to be some kind of reality…. When the price runs away to som fantasyland and one can squeeze more and more of that old chip.
But I do like that comment about hearing with the eyes 👀.. I can in some way understand that 😅 but.. we base our lives on evidence in almost everything.. why is hearing any different?

There are technical reasons involved, a little of myth, a little of market rarity. But it is an excellent sounding chip. Problem is it is a bad *** one to make it rigth in a design. Once done, it is a wonderfull dac chip.
But now, you answered yourself in the question. If more obseded by the Q/P you have cheap modern DACs with good numbers (the logical side of your brain is talking), if it is about music, go check with your ears in the shop (it is the other side of your brain).
I now am very understanding our bottoms have an entanglement strong atomic relation with our sofa, and we want the answer before moving to the shop. But it is not possible. Ah, and try it with the two loudspeakers, it is better than hearing with just one loudspeaker. Don't klippel the vendors, they all lie !

NOS TDA1541A chips cost more than current production chips, for a start, because the are hard to find.
A DAC is a lot more than just the DAC chip and the better the implementation the better the sound.
This Abbas DAC for instance has a lot more to it than the TDA1541 DAC chip.
If you want measurements of TDA1541A DACs for any qualifications, you will be sorely disappointed as they will all measure poorly compared to modern DACs. The Abbas DAC pictured will measure very poorly where THD comes into it, but owners love them for their sound.

Yeah I would love them to…. If spend a fortune on it. But I haven’t heard so I can’t really give an opinion

They do not measure poor electrical chrs. It was very good to excellent in time when they appear?
As many old dac IC too.
Compared as measurements to newer dacs now, they are still more than decent.

But contemporary dacs and adcs are just superior for applications in measurement equipment,
for test and measure audio equipment 🙂
I heard that same model pictured (a 2.2) it was very nice, very....for want of a better word.....real sounding, instruments sounded like the live thing more than other DACs I had heard. And the 2.2 is one of his mid level DACs...price wise.
Or was it a 2.3?
He winds a lot of his transformers after choosing specific vintage wire (off vintage iron), same as his hookup wire is a combination of chosen vintage wire strands, every component NOS and new is carefully chosen.
This is an actual pic of the one I had on loan from a mate, before installing the tubes.
No affiliation, just experienced that one owned by a friend and as a result read up a lot on how he approaches his design/build work.

I use a TDA1540D DAC non-oversampling and would not replace it with a modern chip based DAC (14bits in all their glory), so I'm not rubbishing the old DAC chips 🙂
The whole " DAC" thing is a huge gimmick.
Modern DAC isn't very hard to do with the top performing chips that go into all of them.
Really not more than 90 dollars to have top grade full unit.
Something around 1000 dollars would be 16 channels full duplex with In and Out conversion.
I burst into laughter hearing extremely basic units people buy for 8 or 12 thousand.
If a guy can sell absurdly ancient tech and make his insurance, mortgage and car payment with one unit.
More power to him and all the dummies that fall for it.
I wouldn't do something like that, not a scam artist or snake oil salesman.
But the bank doesn't care and they want those payments.
