It is absurd to you.8700 usd for old tech is just absurd!
Had so many TDA1541A chips and DACs that I decided to have 0 many years ago. Got fed up with doing the same over and over again but also with the cult status and zeolotry. It IS a good but hard to implement chip. No regrets at all. If people want to pay 8700 for one that is fine. I won’t for sure. If you can be satisfied with current “good enough” technology to play files all is good.
And even if it would be best: how many albums you like are well recorded and how often are they played!? Does it justify for you to have “the best”!?

Ok Mansa Musa 💰…. Ok if you have the money to spend sure. I can se a point there. But if you think about the practical use of the dac…. 8700usd .. could bring something perhaps… a lot better! It is absurd to you.
But maybe paying 8700 for a Tda 1541 dac is like buying a Rolex… the time is more incorrect than on a IPhone 📱. But it is the “thing” of owning it I guess
My gained knowledge is that the best ICs are the ones that can not be found anymore and the worst those that can be found in abundance. When the worst also are EOLed their status changes to “very good”. When they can not be found anymore their status changes to “best” suddenly in the eyes of many. Also that what is described and measured by fanatics as "worst" in real life often just sounds OK. Not many cared for TDA1541A in its youth, it was BB that got the flowers.
If obsolete decades old technology is per se needed for best playback of music then somewhere in time something went wrong.
There is a very high “going back to youth”, “they don’t make em like that anymore” and nostalgia component in the phenomenon to use obsolete stuff. And lots of money to be gained. The hype is usually created/endorsed by those that sit on a pile of that parts.

I've got a 1540 based DAC too, love it, but my 1541 just pips it. And to me, they both sound better than any more modern DACs i listen too.I use a TDA1540D DAC non-oversampling and would not replace it with a modern chip based DAC (14bits in all their glory), so I'm not rubbishing the old DAC chips 🙂
Just my opinion though and I am biased, I built them !!
P.
I just wonder how can a product or a whole business be based on a component that is EOL. As a DIY, it is still OK, though.
It is not about money. It about choice. In spending $8700 on a dac the buyer is making a choice you might not make even if you had the money.Ok Mansa Musa 💰…. Ok if you have the money to spend sure.
Pity the poor CX20017. I guess it is just a case of S.O.L.My gained knowledge is that the best ICs are the ones that can not be found anymore and the worst those that can be found in abundance. Could someone invite Amir from Audio science review on this? I want him in this discussion!
And love to see other people’s opinions! Could there reallllly be a difference in 2000 to 8700!?!? Or is it just… fantasy
Let Amir out off the game , he choosed numbers when most of us choosed audio and listening pleasure
you wont find any good opinion on stuff no one has listen to , forget about the price , if you like it the price become secondary 😎
.
Have the same with not buying stuff from countries that have an economy mainly based on defense industry/war.
Swiss and Luxemburg stuffs are expensive ! 🤔
I bought Abbas DAC 2.2 and even though I didn't pay the full price I feel that it's a good Dac for $2k and worth the money. $10k for this technology? Sure , once Abbas moves to UK and starts operating business in first world reality it is not without merritt.Glass houses and stones, limono?
The same applies to Moussa from Djibouti selling DACs and cables on principle of magic properties.
Having said this I'm happy for Abbas that he is able to sell DAC's for whatever price he is able to sell it and getting to know him I wish him all the best. The same with Lampizator whom I got to meet as well and he definitely is NOT a pompous fool.
Oh and I have no problem with the defense and war economy based country and its clear, properly bottled substance either.
I didn't forget . Average monthly income in Ukraine before war in 2020 was $450. That means once you take out olighars from the equation reality was $200 a month for most people. In UK it was $3250 per month. You forgot the above.
I do because I was born in one. Stop being Karen especially that you're from UK and your whole lineage profited from such countries for hundreds of years and continue to profit to this day hence you guys can afford such DAC's like a cup of tea.Do you think you are in any position to call any other country a sh..hole?
I still recall the pleasures of outhouse , happily buzzing flies and newspaper cut into squares 🙂
