Chassis hunt

Dear Lord that's a long wait. Price wise, looks like you saved about $200 easy which will probably cover the cost of internals LOL.

Does it feel as it looks? What's the build quality? Internal base plate included? Any accessories included? Do you have a link to the product?

Please and thank you!

I'm not sure how similar you want / need, but Modushop sells the Deluxe line of chasssis.

OUR PRODUCTS => DIYAUDIO PRODUCTS => CHASSIS

The deluxe aluminum are by far the most popular.

We should also have the new version of the deluxe chassis available soon.

@Gianluca and the team at Modushop are fantastic.
Yeah that's what I was looking at, as I'm importing anyway... Just doing a cost breakdown which I can post here if any of the Canadian folks are interested in (as I'm importing to Canada).

The one thing I can't figure out is what's the difference between Deluxe 4U and Dissipante 4U as Deluxe is 70 Euros more but the dimensions and plate thicknesses are the same for aluminum variant. Any idea?

+1 vote for Modushop 5U/400 Deluxe (or 4U/300 Deluxe). Heat sinks all UMS predrilled, back plate predrilled, and perforated plate included.

Not having to drill, tap, and the other metal work is so worth it. How much is 4-6 hours of your time worth drilling, cutting, tapping, and such. Modushop Deluxe chassis are plug and play with the amps you listed.

Gianluca is a solid guy and his products are top notch.

Great feel. 'That Hard Chinese Aluminum' it is, seriously. Build quality is fair BUT requires enhancments to carry the load that is going to live inside of it.
No accessories, just lots & lots of extra screws and a power switch. No base plate. The link is gone. The store dropped it. It showed up in new stores.

Sounds like a win win for sure. Thanks man, much appreciated!

to avoid import duties and costly shipping.
If the product is shipped by FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc., into Canada and you do not have a broker, the courier will immediately hold your parcel hostage until you pay the random fees they declare, which can be exorbitant.. Unless the shipper does the customs paperwork up front, you cannot stop that.

International shippers that use postal services and prepare a customs declaration seldom incur extra fees when landing in Canada.

I live in Canada and frequently buy USA. I set up an American address at no charge with Cross Border Pickups. The address is in Buffalo, NY. The location is theirs with the unit number in the address specific to me. They route almost anything to Mississauga(Toronto) for less than $10 CAD.

Cross Border Pickups is one of many companies that offer this service but probably one of the most reliable and affordable. Other companies that I do business with, also use Cross Border Pickups and have been for years.

Perhaps that info may help you and others.

OMG yes! That's the thing I was looking for when ordering from USA. And Buffalo -> Toronto is super quick!

Thanks so much man, will go and set up an account with them and see how to proceed next... Much appreciated!

@dovla83 We have recently added a new shipping courier (EMS) to Canada which is equal to postal service: slower but custom duties tend to be lower than regular FedEx 🙂
Thanks for the info!

Can you please elaborate what is the difference between Deluxe 4U aluminum and Dissipante 4U aluminum?

They are the same dimensions and materials used but different price, and I can't find more on your website. Thanks!

All the differences are outlined on this page. Key things copied below and tweaked a little.

https://diyaudiostore.com/products/deluxe-4u

Heatsinks

Faceplate

  • The standard front panels do not have any holes drilled in the rear. Deluxe chassis faceplates have holes.
  • Why have holes?
    • 9 blind M3 pre-tapped mounting holes suitable for mounting all kinds of things to the faceplate - diodes, PCBs, riser panels, potentiometers, etc
    • Mount single or dual PSU boards directly to the back of the front panel
    • Designed so risers can be bolted to the chassis using two axis to create stable interior platforms within the chassis and maximize all the interior space
    • Use with risers and easily mount front panel components such as pots and dials to the risers with extension rods going through the front panel, saving the need for complicated or messy hacking in order to attach things to the front panel
    • The 9th hole is perfectly centered in the chassis and approximately 1/3 of the way down from the top (or bottom - you can spin the front 180') and can be used either as a mounting hole or as LED pilot hole

Back Panel

  • Standard back panel has no holes.
  • Deluxe has
    • 1 x aluminum back panel 3mm thick and CNC routed to our back panel specification, ready to accept your choice of PEM, RCAs and premium binding posts or drop our back panel parts kit (not included) straight in
    • It has Neutrik XLR compatible holes on the back to accept XLR, XLR/1/4" combo or RCA-in-XLR-format connector so you can easily connect XLR, 1/4" or RCA cables to your amplifier
    • Please see the 4U Back Panel Specification for more details

Perforated Baseplate Included

  • 1 x galvanized steel, perforated inner baseplate 300mm deep and 1.5mm thick which is pre-drilled with a pattern of holes allowing for easy mounting as well as less flex
  • All holes in the base are in a DIY friendly 10mm x 10mm hole pattern. This makes it easy to design the mounting for anything you might want to attach, as well as ensuring if you rotate it 90 degrees, it will also mount perfectly.
  • Holes are aligned so there is a column of holes directly in the center to make it easy to drill out a hole for perfectly centered transformer mounting
  • All diyAudio PCBs going forward will come with mounting holes spaced apart in multiples of 10mm to allow for easy mounting in any orientation
  • Riser Panels can be combined with the 10x10 pattern to create unlimited horizontal and vertical mounting configurations

I purchased a large amp chassis on AliExpress last year. I was planning to build my largest amp of all time this year(kind of/sort of).
Internal cavity: 142mm High x 400 mm Deep x 330 mm Wide

It was $380 CAD delivered. Took over three months to receive the order.

That's only about 70 Canadian dollars cheaper than the similar sized Modushop 'Mini Dissipante 4U 400mm' (https://modushop.biz/site/index.php?route=product/product&path=322&product_id=874), including EMS (postal service, I believe) shipping. Could you comment on quality of machining, finishing of edges, packaging, etc.? Did the package sneak through customs, or were you charged anything?

I'm currently looking for a smaller housing for a pair of Zenductor 2. I believe 4U height, at least 140mm depth, and at least 150mm interior width would allow me to mount the PCBs and the Mosfets against the sidewalls. So I was thinking a Modushop 'Galaxy Maggiorato 4U GX287 230 x 170 mm' could work. The sidewalls should improve cooling by roughly a factor of 3.
Does the US DIYaudioshop carry this or something of similar size?

Alternatively, 2U height, 250mm interior width and at least 120mm interior depth would allow to mount the amps back-to-back to the base of the chassis, with an inch or so of wire between the Mosfets and the PCB. I'm not sure whether there is a short Modushop chassis like this.

Has anybody seen a table listing all the Modushop chassis interior dimensions? That would be very useful.
