I have a pair of 3-way (decent quality) speakers that have been stored for several months and need some playing time to come on song.
I have a spare amplifier (150W mono-block).
Any drawback to my wiring the speakers in series to the amp and leaving them playing for a weekend out in the workshop ?

Playing them at or near their Fs would break them (in) at reduced power and (possibly) faster. A pair may also be run anti-phase to reduce any audible nuisance to self / family / neighbour / community.
After about 0,5 second a few things might happen and then after say 5 minutes some minuscular things might change,. then nothing really. How you connected them will have no impact at all.

What do you consider may have deteriorated and will improve with use?
I respectfully have to disagree. In my experience with PA drivers, Fs takes hours to stabilise unless brutally driven close to Xmax, and even then, 5 minutes won't do it! Soft suspension hifi drivers may be different. After about 0,5 second a few things might happen and then after say 5 minutes some minuscular things might change,. then nothing really. The same here. And one day later it is as high as at the beginning.Fs takes hours to stabilise
If one breaks in a driver quickly and brutally, it will retain a memory of that abuse.

Thanks all for your advice...esp Dave! 🙂
I will play them low and long and with a wide range of genres.
My main question was to the advisability of running them wired in series from a single mono amp and as no-one has advised otherwise I assume this is all OK.

Nothing "deteriorated" though surrounds may have stiffened and crossover caps need slow reforming ?. ( I have treated the (rubber) surrounds in the past with Oil of Wintergreen and as these drivers are now 40+ years young I try to care for them as well as can be. 🙂@

As has been mentioned, it will make no difference.
However.. in cases where you will eventually be pushing them to the limit you'll want to keep in mind that they may not share the signal perfectly, meaning one may be closer to the limit than the other.

If they are 40 year old speakers, any amount of “breaking in” happened decades ago and are now in the process of breaking down. It may even be best to limit unnecessary use to preserve what life they have left?
Ahh..good to know that. Thanks!Ok. Changing polarity of one or both, or changing their order isn't going to change their sharing ratio. At frequencies where there are differences, one will always dominate the other.
