Burning Amp 2024!

Hmm... I'm running a 7.0. My PSB Gold-i speakers reach down to 20Hz... musically.

But then, my "HT" is in the den... within easy access of the boozer, beer and chips. No need to walk to another room to get the vittles...

And all of that, and we seldom use it.

Well, I've been sort of busy... working you know....

But I did do some playing.

Got a pair of woofers and a crossover, from Parts Express.

Dayton Audio MKSX4 Four 4" Driver Low Profile Passive Subwoofer and Rolls SX45 Stereo Two-Way Mini Crossover w/Sub Output.

Then I dug a Parasound zAmp...

And hooked them up... it does indeed add some oomph to the Metronome speakers. But I think I will play more with it. Maybe run the Metronomes full range and just add the woofers via the low pass filter. I don't know... Just playing, but it does extend the speakers down nicely...

BTW, note how the bridge F4s and BA3 are ready to pound.... it's presents such a different presentation...

Hmm.. interesting... I removed the crossover from the circuit for the Metronomes... so they're run full range and the woofers are run on the low pass filter.

It sounds FAR better. That high pass filter really sucks the life out of the music. It added grunge to the sound. The music sounded "slow".

I had thought of getting one of them fancy miniDSPs but, to be honest, I'm not keen on adding the digital complexity on circuits that are simple and sound good as they are. I guess the distortions from the crossover don't bother me when I use them to run the (sub) woofer.

Perhaps, I ought to bring back the Entecs into the mixture.... Might as well since I have no room to put them in the house...

Lessons from BAF24.. still continuing.. where are the extended heatsinks for the Zenductor's Zon? UPS sucks in my neighborhood.

OK, I'm gonna keep those little woofers for the time being. I listened for hours last night and with the Metronomes running full range and the "sub"woofers bring up the bottom end, just so, the Mini sounds really good.

So that project is pretty well defined... Now time to start getting the Zons of Zenductor biased and try the skyscraper stacked heatsinks. The plan is to use the "bigger" amps on the Metronome... and use those speakers as the bed for all of the low powered amps I got.

BAF24 was indeed very fruitful.

I could have had that Sony VFET....
