Fun in a theatre - 3x Faital 18XL1800

I stay with my closed cabinet design for the Faital 18XL1800, I will have seven of them in the room, controlled by 2.5K amp's at 8 Ohms and managed by a Trinnov Altitude processor using their new technology " Wave forming" Also look to the brand Ascendo, they all use closed sub's for their cinema's Sub's ranging from 12" to 80" Kibk: https://www.aia-cinema.com/products/subwoofers.html
I agree with Dreamworks 100%.
The most life like and natural bass will come from multiple sealed subs distributed around the room and controlled by a state of the art DSP.

I do recognise that when it comes to sealed Vs ported cone movement is the enemy and minimising cone movement = minimising distortion.
The best way to achieve this is add more drivers.... NOT use a Band Pass (or transmission line) as they simply substitute one distortion for another.... Ie they reduce cone movement related distortion but add a massive amount of time domain distortion as they take 100% of the back wave (which is equal to the front wave in sound energy) and delay it through the "Matrix" of wooden folds / tunnels... This is then released OUT OF PHASE with the front wave.... Aaaaagggghhh!
Yes they go bloody loud but they sound bloody terrible when compared to a COMPARABLE sealed box system ie Use enough drivers to reduce the cone movement to similar levels of the BP system and then the sealed box system sounds waaaaaaay better. Apples with apples.... Just buy a nicer apple!

Hence my question if such a TH can be integrated in a full Dirac ART system. Current plan was to use 6x 18XL1800 in sealed enclosures behind the AV wall to get clean undistorted and flat 10-120Hz frequency response.

Just a passing note that there are some measurements of the 18XL1800 in a sealed box in this post:

Hitting one driver with 5KW, unsurprisingly, produces quite a lot of distortion.

Chris
Using 5KW on any one driver will result in huge distortion... Hence OP is using 6 drivers in a multi sub array.
As I stated previously sealed has inherent time domain advantages over Band Pass / Tapped Horns / Transmission Lines or any "Delayed Resonance" design which uses the out of phase rear wave to increase SPL.... Bloody loud but terrible sound.

I would expect your Trinnov Altitude processor to be a lot better than any Dirac implementation.
I have heard various Trinnov units in studios and they sound amazing... I have only heard home AV systems using Dirac and to be honest none of them were even close to the Trinnov.

Tom makes his money from filling stadiums with 130dB SPL.... Not high end audio... Its the same reason the vast majority of speakers used in recording studios / mastering studios / post production movie sound tracks / Dolby / DTS / Auro 3D... Are not delayed resonance horns / transmission lines...
Horses for courses... Bloody loud but bloody terrible sound!

@Frank207be: which AV preamplifier / amplifier with Dirac will you use? Not all have the option to install the paying Dirac ART version, unless you buy a Storm Audio. For the Dirac to work properly you must have 4 separately controlled subwoofer channels. Recently heard it in demo at Alcon ProRibbon on Cedia with Storm & Dirac ART, it sounded great, and that's putting it mildly.

As I said, like for like Sd / cone movement sealed beats delayed resonance every time... You can scale either up or down, but the end result is the same.
Just because you or Tom any one says "hey these sound great..."There is a reason... "the vast majority of speakers used in recording studios / mastering studios / post production movie sound tracks / Dolby / DTS / Auro 3D... Are not delayed resonance horns / transmission lines...

There are several reasons, market inertia and the 'not invented here' syndrome.

Not to mention, most clients are inundated with marketing by the large brands, particularly the 'west coast' sound brand with 3 letters. They don't even want to entertain listening to anything other than what the glossy brochures promise is the next best thing since sliced bread.

At any rate, you are welcome to believe what you want.

Storm Audio sounds phenomenal but also costs way more than I want to spend on audio.

No I use the Denon AVC-A1H with 4 separate subs:
4x 15" on output 1 (will be replaced with 6x 18")
2x 21" on output 2
2x 21" on output 3
2x 18" on output 4
ART support is expected to be released in 2025.

I'll also start building new LCR speakers with 2x 15" woofers in each speaker. End goal is to get a very good, dynamic and clean sounding 7.4.6 system for both surround and music.
