Hi, I've tried to read through the posts on options for building a sub with the 3015LF driver, but I'm curious if I'm missing anything (I assume I am).
Designs that I'm considering are Cubo 15, Cubo Sub, SS15, and (maybe) THAM15 (not sure if the 315LF works in THAM15).
I have 4 of the drivers already in 4 40-year old TOA bass reflex cabs. I'm assuming there's some better cabs around now. The TOA cabs only go to 50 Hz. It'd be nice to get to 40. I use these primarily for small, free outdoor parties, playing everything from acoustic music to tekno.

What's a small partly? 30-40 people? If so, why not plug the vents and eq the bottom end to taste?I use these primarily for small, free outdoor parties, playing everything from acoustic music to tekno.
If not, perhaps the ports can be extended, or the cabinets modified. If they have enough internal volume, you might be able to change out the ports for larger, longer ones for lower tuning. This would be next to free compared to building other cabinets.
The SS15 is probably the best of the bunch you mentioned, though would be better built from 3/4" than 1/2" plywood.Hi, I've tried to read through the posts on options for building a sub with the 3015LF driver, but I'm curious if I'm missing anything (I assume I am).

The SS15 Fb is around 43Hz, output drops off steeply below 45Hz, not even 1/3 octave below 50Hz.
The measurement on the left was made with a 15LB075-UW4 speaker, the 3015LF response somewhere in between it and the simulations on the right.
The 4015LF is 98dB 1w/1m at 40Hz in a 38Hz Fb ported cabinet, the SS15 would give it ~+4dB more sensitivity up top, but may have little less output below, and will flap trying to get 38Hz, while the ported cabinet with EQ could pound down that low.
124dB at 400 watts is equal to 98dB at one watt:
The TOA cabinets I recall from the mid 1980s were big and well built, if they are around 5-7 cubic feet, I'd also suggest simply tuning them lower before building any of the designs mentioned above.
That said, if you wanted to build bigger tapped horns, you could go lower, and pick up a few dB, but from my experience with the 4015LF (a little stronger than the 3015LF) it won't sound as good, the driver is not really built for the extra stress of a low tuned TH.
