Capacitor Recommendation For Recapping Cheap Bookshelf Speakers

I applaud your optimism. Just play music and put your ears next to both speakers. If there’s sound coming out, the speakers are working.

You would get a much better outcome from replacing the cone tweeter with a cheap dome tweeter than replacing the capacitor.

You’d get a much much better outcome by looking for some good quality used bookshelf speakers rather than those Pioneers.

Thank you.

If you don't mind sharing, what would your picks for "some good quality used bookshelf speakers" be? Here in Central Europe the used market is wildly different than in the west, especially here in the former puppet state of the Soviet Union. But maybe I will get lucky and find someone selling them.

Erik, without disagreeing with you or looking into the cause, I can tell you that after a while we tend to get used to general acoustic issues.

Ordinarily this could be a sign of a problem. The essence of listener fatigue is the need to mentally process acoustic problems which can take time for us to learn to tune out. When there are no problems it should sound right straight away.

Hey Allen,

I've replaced a lot of caps, and this is the only time I experienced anything like that. It is possible a HRTF like issue was introduced which I later got used to, however the speakers measured fine impedance and FR was as expected. It was however not a subtle "oh I think this sounds a little bright" type of thing. However, if I did get used to it, none of my (admittedly few) other listeners ever heard a problem with it. It was very odd.
