I doubt that. The process for applying for a travel visa to the US is onerous and expensive. You go through none of that as a US citizen. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who found your "joke" pretty insulting and I just wanted to make you aware of that. Your doubling down now doesn't change that.
Anyway. I fully expect to be at Burning Amp and am rather looking forward to it.
Tom
Hey, I didn't mean to be insulting or anything like that.
I was just curious that as a Canadian you would be harassed. We've driven in and out of Vancouver BC quite a few times and they never ask for a visa or even a passport. Why would that be different for an airport?
don't be so serious .......
if you're not expecting someone having bad intentions, suddenly there are much less offensive actions around
it was a joke, intended on me ........ and I didn't found it offensive in any way
we all are aware that every citizenship is having own set of problems, nobody is in overly better situation than someone else
No kidding... so it turns out I can claim Spanish citizenship by birthright... hmm... then I looked up their taxes... they tax you for ALL the money you make EVERYWHERE in the World.
At least in the US, the IRS allows for overseas income to be taxed overseas and they don't double tax you ( they just want to know )...
But no... In Spain, they tax you... and then they got the "wealth tax" where they tax you just for having STUFF.... nevermind the 21% VAT
So even though we could easily spring the money to buy a nice 3b/2ba flat in Barcelona, it ain't gonna happen. Not even a small place up in the Pyrenees... which would be awesome, btw.
Now then.... have you looked at the real estate in Sochi? You can get a nice little dacha with a small garden where you can grow some tomatoes, cabbages, carrots and then have access to real vodka and Cuban habanos. The weather ain't bad in Sochi either.
Transportation seems to be a controversial topic …..🤣
Anyways, I plan on attending this year.
Furthermore, this community has been extremely nice to me, so I raise my hand to volunteer.
Whatever you guys need, I am willing….. I was in the military, and have painted rocks before! Soooooo, no matter what the team needs, sign me up!

To change the subject, I'm looking forward to seeing the event details. It's a great venue and I like Petaluma. Lived there in the late 50's. Some parts haven't changed much.
Bodega Bay is a great side trip. Bill

I never said I was harassed as a Canadian. That assumption is yours. In fact, my travels to the US have been much easier since I became a Canadian citizen. You can deduce my immigration history from my resume, which you can find on my website. Anyway. I have no interest in continuing this part of the conversation. At least not here. I've made my point.I was just curious that as a Canadian you would be harassed.
I enjoyed it too. The shuttle bus from the SFO airport to the Fairgrounds made it super easy to get there. There were tons of restaurants around. I recall having a few good beers at Lagunitas. The venue was spacious and the park next door made it easy to escape outside for a bit. It's a great venue and I like Petaluma.

or..... get a flight that end in Oakland. OAK is about the same distance to Petaluma as SFO and much less hassle to go through. The last few times I've been to the bay area I've gone throigh OAK and it has been painless.Gouda Air
KLM could not transfer our luggage from plane to plane, even though you could see them and the layover was four hours.
I'd rather take the train in Italia... but then SFO is a PITA. Might as well fly direct to LAX and then hop to SFO. It's a 45 minute flight or a seven hour drive on the 5 with me at the wheel. ( six hours from LA... add an hour for the drive from OC... in 405 traffic ).
Seven hours from the OC to Petaluma, taking the from 580 the 5 to the 101.
It sort of amazes how few the non stop flights to SFO are... LAX has flights everywhere.
In the US, driving is actually quite quick for drives under 400 miles. Above that, flying is faster, even with the airport delays... assuming, of course, that the ecommerce sites are working.
For international flights LAX is quite good. It has its own separate international terminal: Bradley International. There's a single point of entry and exit where you show your passport before entering/exiting the gate areas.
Sonoma County (STS) is an option too.
I have a few direct options YYC-SFO, so that'll be my choice. I don't mind SFO, especially when I'm 'outsourcing' the driving to a shuttle bus driver. 🙂
This is the shuttle company: https://groometransportation.com/sonoma-county. Looks like they upped the fare to $51. That's still pretty manageable.

Snoopy Airport!
2019, Variac drove me from Pa (Sea Ranch) to STS, where I did catch a flight to LA, visiting AR2
I was greening all the time, seeing Snoopy everywhere

Miami to SFO should be OK, I guess.
Do you have any issues bringing electronics into the US? I imagine that a sane person might pay more attention to something with lights, tubes, switches, wires, etc... than a finely aged pork sausage. But this is Customs...
Hey...what's the build this year? I don't recall reading about it.
Build Camp projects are being planned. Note the "s" on projects.
Lemme know if you need a facilitator for those build camps.

I booked a hotel room at the Best Western. The hotel is a very short walk to the venue. Last year it sold out.
They have no charge cancellation until October 17 if you reserve for October 18.

Mostly for whomever is our local liaison this year. I usually bring a bunch of stuff and demonstrate a full system hoping to convey and get responses to the avenues I'm pursuing. With a full two day event, it would be far more convenient if I could unload, or even get partially set up on Saturday as time between my activities allows. I checked with Tom about this last year but things were fluid and it didn't quite come together. With a year's experience behind us for the facilities management and the BAF group, I thought it worth asking again. It isn't a game killer for me at all. I'll be there regardless, but I imagine there are some other hobbyist exhibitors who would like move in to some degree on Saturday.
Thanks for your consideration, Skip

@ra7, were you able to ask a manager directly or via a message through whoever answered the phone? That may be why you have gotten no response.I have asked them twice for a block rate with no luck.
@Skip Pack Yes, there’s a possibility, but the biggest consideration will be that we don’t have all the rooms both days. In fact, there is only one “display room” for both days, the other are the build camp sites.
Will be happy to discuss, but need to make a good guess as to how much room we’ll actually have available both days, and if/what considerations the venue has for overnight responsibility. (Which I’d guess would be none…)
