Hello,
Planning to replace Hanlan 100uF, 100V,some 25 years old capacitors in the woofer part of crossovers.
Some of the options are:
-/+20%
Nichicon Fine Gold 100uF 100V
Elna RFS 100uF 100V
-/+5%
Nichikon is half the price of Elna and Mundorf. What would you suggest?
Any other options ?
Thx

These bipolar 100 uf 100 v at digikey have a 2000 hour service life as compared to others in stock that are 1000 hours. 20% tolerance. $1.59 ea. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/nichicon/UVP2A101MHD1TN/4328929
They are radial lead and may require lead extension for a board suited for axial caps.
I use industrial caps in my amps and organs. Nichicon is one of the useful five, also Panasonic, Rubicon, Vishay, Kemet.
Axial bipolar electrolytic caps are aviailable from Parts-express.com. However they require shipment by UPS, which is very expensive to canadians.

https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/nichicon/UVP2A101MHD1TN/4328929 looks like polar cap
Solen.ca shipping is ridiculous for small orders.
Thx.

I'd just go with non-polar or bi-polar capacitor. Bennic, solen etc... I'd avoid anything +/-20%. For a 100uF nominal capacitor - you could get anything between 80uF and 120uF and that will make a difference, especially if a shunt component (parallel with woofer) as it will affect crossover point and slope.
My preference is +/-10% or better components. Do both speakers

Buy 10 cheap 100uF 50V and measure and match up your own perfect pairs using 4 each of those in a minus-to-minus and parallel configuration.
What is the min voltage rating of woofer cap one should consider? Existing caps are 100V, radial.Buy 10 cheap 100uF 50V
There are space constraints due to board's and enclosures sizes...
You would be connecting two 100uF 50V in series to give back the 100V rating (but making a 50uF series cap), and then connect two of those combos in parallel.
Buy the lowest voltage 4pin, DC-Link 100uF cap you can get. 5 or 10%, ESR below 0.005 ohm, will take at least 20Arms, and you will never ever have to buy a new one. I would have a bunch of 40uF for sale, but you would need 4 of them to get 100uF. If interrested, 8 of those would be €50,- plus postage, still much cheaper than two 100uF from mouser, but offcourse take up more space, alltough current capabilitie would be an insane 45Arms
if anyone is interrested please mail me, NOS, KEMET DC Link, 900V 40uF 5%, I can select 4pcs for 100uF, less than 1% tolerance
Might want to look at the price again (on Mouser) and take note that it’s in *Canadian dollars, not much more expensive Euros. 😉If interrested, 8 of those would be €50,- plus postage, still much cheaper than two 100uF from mouser, but offcourse take up more space, alltough current capabilitie would be an insane 45Arms
*without currency exchange fees.
-shipping is also usually lower from Mouser Ca. to Canada.
Still, it is considerably more than electrolytic caps.
I just looked at canadian mouser, the 8 caps I offered for €50 would cost 17,97x8=143,76 CAD = €97.80, so mine are about half of that, and they would be selected to less than 1% tolerance.
But you are right, mouser also has a 100 uF 10% TDK cap, 23.23CAD = €15.79, that really is dirt cheap , so I thinck that is a no brainer, why bother with bipolar electrolytic caps nowdays , DC-Link caps beat bipolar electolytic in everey respect, even in price they will turn out cheaper in the long run

I am in the same boat, I am looking for 11 100uf 250 V film capacitors for a good price.
Very expensive 100uf film capacitors, any leads for cheaper prices ?

..about as cheap in the US as you’ll get for a film cap at 100uf:
