Hello guys,
any really good suggestions for some kind of power supply (for dac/streamer) that can deliver ideally 16V and 3A or better....
Preferably if pcb is available - it would be even better (life gets easier that way at least for me).....
Thank you... cheers

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005643857613.html as a predregulator for an low dropout regulator like for example TPS7A8500 , you can add some opamp feedback to get more of tps if need.
Will look into it.... that aliexp. pcb by itself will not be good enough.... have to check TPS you were kind to suggest.... thank you...
Need a really good linear psu but usually they are not strong enough....

Something like this one https://www.ldovr.com/product-p/tps7a4700-lm31xg.htm if combined with an buck predregulator you can form an low dropout voltage = low heat.
e.g. this one have 307 mV dropout at 1 A, so if your predregulator is 16.4V dropout voltage is 0.4V x 1A = 0.4W of heat, speaking about your final voltage=16V
If you need more take a look for LT3045 paraleled e.g. https://www.aliexpress.com/i/1005004464685267.html or even probably better https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002927955355.html

You could use something like an old laptop power supply, with a simple linear stage to clean it up if needed and set the voltage.
Adjustable current limit might be useful?
How clean does it need to be?
How much are you willing to spend?
Do you have a scope to work on it?
A DAC is probably going to do a lot of conversion on the 16V, so putting great effort into a really clean 16V might be no gain!

Depend on topology used in laptop power supply, I can reccomend an PushPull, LLC or smilar topology which have common mode cancelation = less ground common noise, if you use flyback it not going to be easy to cleanup by linear regulator because of high common mode noise which any dac not going to like. : ) If you want easy solution and you no want to mess with topologies, buy an clasic transformer e.g. torus transformer with clasic diode bridge and boiler capacitors, put an buck regulator in case you need to form an low dropout voltage and than use an good post regulator to make low noise supply. I will need one for my project too and I will use torus + cheap XL4015 as a predregulator and I will do post regulator with TPS7A8500 and opamp feedback, it will be enought to supply rpi4 3A reguirement and good enought regulated supply, just an example. For dac and things which reguire small amount of current e.g. 100mA the best one is an shunt regulator or if you not like heating look for an LT3042 200mA regulator.

i don't have a scope ... it needs to power Innuos Pulse mini streamer........You could use something like an old laptop power supply, with a simple linear stage to clean it up if needed and set the voltage.

how much - a lot less then the original psu Innuos offers....
seems it will be difficult and i more and more think i might end up using their 600$ psu made for their devices..... aiiiiiiii...! 😳😵🤔
i need 16V, 3A (or more)... really good psu to supply my streamer... and way less then 600$ because otherwise i could get the original psu....TPS7A8500
This is reguirement you need. So 12V 1.2A is good enought for it, for example this one https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004382488496.html , you no need owerkill for your Pulse mini streamer , thats waste of money : )

This one $59 well made, well looking, well cheap https://www.ebay.com/itm/353532995691 . To be honest making an diy variant can be twice or more the price than it : )

i am thinking more or less the same... have to check.... especially because Sean Jacobs is making those designs for Innuos...

might be the easiest thing to go with... i don't know....

In my opinion soo overpriced! And not beter than one from ebay for $59 : ) Take a look, 179 sold and nobody complain, all positive feedback received. And it was realy well made, filtration, cabling, perfectly well made. Note that I don't have it nor I advertising it, just found it and I extremely like how it is well made. Cheap = not bad, sometime ten times cheap item can be ten times better than overpriced item, for example your $600-59= you save $541 ! : )

This looks almost like childrens folding it, and overpriced and oversized for what? Nothing special there other than the well price : )
Now compare. Seccond one, more fitration and done much more meticulously. And one more important thing, Ebay is less capable of paid or fake reviews, can be more trusted than four reviews on A...phonics, might be fake as there is no link for user profile who gaved review!

I bought an adjustable bench power supply from ebay for about £45 which would probably do the job.
I've also picked up a few random broken hifi amps for little money, a good source of power transistors, caps, transformers etc, and not least, a case to put things in. I have a mate who does car boot sales, he's picked up one or two amps for me.
In a different area of electronics, I've been known to power things from a bunch of batteries to see if a clean supply helps.
Either of those supplies in the photos might measure up nicely.
Mains filter? Tick
Plenty of caps? Tick
Some sort of linear regulation? Tick
Ready to go, in a box? Tick
I'm inclined to say streamers and DACs should have a level of supply immunity, but as I'm not flexing my credit card, the designers won't value my opinion.

Plenty of caps need to be propertly caclulated, not much and not less but enought. All depend of topology, design and simulation result for an optimal transient response the same time less possible noise. I know that there is extremes, with bateries and 100 capacitors with snake oil inside, but is that realy needed for an Innuos Pulse mini streamer? For exampe if you put much more capacitors on an J.D. regulator it will work better? No. If you put less capacitors than what it need it will even not work corect. All must be done right for an optimum result. Probably Innuos Pulse mini streamer have their own intern regulators for 3.3V, 1.8V and I think spending too much for an power supply to the extremes have no sense.

Of coursehigh price = doesn't mean that item is really good, don't be foled by high price.
