Troel's Loudspeaker 3 versus Faital 3WC15

it separate the crucial midrange from the bass. Like I did with my TL2 and CNO4

As it happens, this was also the direction I decided to take. I even made some simple drawings to see what the speakers would look like. I opted for a simplified version of the Troels' design with a single layer of Baltic Birch. I don't think they're the prettiest speakers, but that's not what I'm looking for either. 😉

Fantastic! A friend of mine has built it and he loves it. He added thou that the TL3 doesn't like transistor amps and will shine better with tubes... and I just finished planning a new sort of TL3. if you're interested, it separate the crucial midrange from the bass. Like I did with my TL2 and CNO4
Thanks for all the great hands on information!! Based on your feedback I am going to go in the direction of the TL3. I will run it with a tube amp! I would be interested in seeing your version of a TL3. And I hope to start this build in March. Thanks again for sharing your experiences with us. And congrats on your outstanding builds!

Did you sell your CNO-4's? I'm a new member so cannot send you a message directly, but you may send me one. Thanks.

Building TL3s with a single layer of Baltic Birch has its aesthetic challenges.
I'm trying to figure out if I can improve the appearance of the TL3s shown in my drawings in post 83. To that end, I've made some new drawings with a few minor changes.
What do you guys think?
1.1.jpg1.2.jpg <- Option 1 «««---»»» Option 2 ->2.1.jpg2.2.jpg

I don't think option number one will be that difficult to achieve. My idea is to separate the lower grille (for the bass and tweeter) from the upper grille (for the mid).

The lower grille is quite simple, as shown in the image below:

As for the upper grille, it will consist of two pieces. The first will be made from MDF and covered in black fabric, as shown in the image below:
Mid1.jpg

The second piece will be made from Baltic Birch and will be attached to the previous one, as shown in the image below:

Et voilà! The front grille is complete. 🙂

You've expressed some reservations about the difficulty of option 1. But, leaving aside these practical reservations and looking at the different variations from a purely aesthetic point of view, do you still prefer option 2 from post 95?

I haven't thought about a base yet, nor do I know if I'm going to go down that road.
For now, I'm more inclined towards simple feet and/or spikes.

But if I decide to make a base, I guess I have two options:

  • Make a simple base like Troels did. 🙂

  • Or make a much more sophisticated base (à la Kenrick Sound). 😎

Thanks.
