Perfect, thank you! Your comments on the Q17 thus far have pushed me towards thinking it's definitely the next solid state build I'll be doing.
Q17 fans, the group buy on Turbo 1 has just begun. Don't miss it!

Hello,
I got IXTH48P20P and made measurements, also FQA36P15 and FQA46N15 for comparison

Tim thank you for this comparison!
In the next Q17 build, the clear choice for me is FQA46N15+IXTH48P20P.

Hi Tibi,
I've just assembled the PSU and the amp, up to the point where you describe some tests to be done before installing the last components.
I wanted to test the PSU before I connect it to the amp. Unlike a linear PSU, the active PSU can't just be connected to the mains and the output voltage be measured without a load connected to it.
I'm using a 2x40V toroid 500VA trafo.
Without load, I measured +-60VDC at the output, while I measured 40VAC at the input. This is totally different from a linear PSU reading.
My question to you is: can I connect the PSU to the amp without a risk, or is another test method recommended for the PSU? E.g. recommended load to test the PSU?
Thanks
Christophe

Hi Christophe,
You may power and measure active power supply without load. You will get a slighter higher voltage than a normal diode bridge.
+/-60Vdc is perfect for Q17. Double check if you have correctly mounted all parts and go ahead and test.

Thanks a lot Tibi,
I just wanted to be sure that the higher output voltage is ok, before I connect it to the amp.
No worries: I'm double checking every component while putting it in place.

Hello,
Has anyone ever tested the Wima FKP4 as a C7 in the Q17?
https://www.mouser.de/ProductDetail/WIMA/FKP4J041007G00JYSD?qs=OiDNLlGUHG0LPVVrgwevtA==
I ask because it's a mixed construction between MKP and FKP, kind of like the Mundorf supreme classic capacitors. The size with P37.5 mm and 20 mm width is moderate, it still fits well. I have now ordered the very large 1uF FKP1 and want to test it, but it is much too large for the usual layouts.
Regards Tim

These were an amazing find to me

Better than any wima anywhere i tried them. Not a bad price too. Worth trying out here as well.

I see you will be using mosfet SSRs. The PSU should have screw or, in the best case, clamp connectors. Large transformers also have thick secondary wire, which are not ideal for crimping fastons, ...
