Wilson Watt Clones(ish)

Bought these home yesterday but the wife hates them ( more than any other speakers I’ve brought home )

I presume damping wool seen just behind the woofer is still impeding quite a bit the flow to the port, so the bass may be just tad better than as if it were sealed. Seas drivers are definitely fully capable of sounding decently, depending on the filter. Bass is not their strong suit but could be dealt in a way to satisfy basic needs (approx. 50 Hz/-3dB).

Should this be used as 2 way only, I'd for certain exchange the port for a 2" diameter one, assuming T/S parameters and space allow it. What does it say about the woofer model?

Bass is none existent to my ears , would removing the so called angel hair improve the bass ? Or different woofers perhaps?

Damping should be put in such a way that both of the functions ( suppressing standing waves and clear path to port) are fulfilled. Will you write down the model of woofer, written on the magnet? Perhaps there is datasheet to provide us with fast means of simulating bass response. By doing that and estimating port measures (original), we will able to assess its effectiveness.

Quite as suspected. Seas woofer is trimmed for good sensitivity, thus lowered bass extension comes as no surprise. Even though the sheet reads Fs=37 Hz, the up-side down plotted impedance graph shows Fs being closer to 75Hz. This is because of different techniques being used for parameters evaluation. Nevertheless, unit is usable. A quick sim of 10 litres ported enclosure, shows potential for 65-70 Hz/-3dB, port being 2" by 6.4" or ( not so adequate 1" by 1.24" ).

Would you check the tweeter model as well? There is ways of simulating both of the responses ( woofer, tweeter, their impedance and spl) to evaluate the crossover built in.

Tracing x/o schematic will further help.

Sadly whoever glued the wood to the drivers stuck it over the identification sticker on the tweeter , I will pull the other one out to see if that’s the same and whilst doing so I’ll get a photo ( hopefully ) of the xo .
Appreciate you taking the time to help

Well the sound reminds me of some Acoustic Energy ae1 signatures that I had not so long ago .
If I had more time I’d build some puppies ( subs ) for them .

I still have my two pairs... not selling them. Got them upgraded to the rubber surrounds... foam disintegrates within 10 years. Got the parts from the factory.

For your set.... I'd start by painting those stands black.

I have run Entec woofers very successfully with my AE1s. They merge very well being that both are "fast".
