Sacrilege/what problems have I caused myself/what next?

Also they are not made for ….. rock party... more for casual listening level where it sings 🙂
Interestingly, I’ve found them to be superb for rock, but that might be the type of rock I like. I’m not into modern heavy metal, or even the percussive stuff like Metallica - I like melody and vocal driven stuff like Rush, early Rainbow, Dio era Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd etc. I’ve only had these speakers a few days, but several times have had that “Oh **** yeah!” moment while listening to them at volume 🙂

On the other hand I’ve also had some moments with classical pieces - something I’ve not listened to for ages.

I meant, do not playback at rock party level. But yes, I was found of my late Kef 104/2 and that played fine on all material, expecially the Beatles ! 🙂

too much brits here, I'm out ! 🤣 (you are in good hands with Galu and System7... and also Planet10... 🙂 )

Bextrene cone is fine, some will say it is colored, not clear enough, blah . Fact is all loudspeaker are a partial catch of reality, and the Bextrene I have found, were confortable for music lover that needs to live with music ! I loved a lot as a kid the old simple 2 ways Jensen with just a cap as high pass on the tweeter of the older brother with a Pioneer 10W and a bad LP ! Music is first an aesthetic personal journey 🙂 Enjoy your Kefs 🙂

Reactions: Southdowns
the lythic caps may need remplacement.

Yes, when the replacement driver is sorted out, we should perhaps talk about replacing the old electrolytic capacitors in the crossover.

If they are the black and red ELCAPS as shown in the attachments, they will have suffered badly from ageing and changed their capacitance value to the detriment of the performance of the loudspeaker system.

Was is MKP or MKT ? I found the same on my DM14 ! I am talking of the black, as the red I didn't see any before today, not a coil ?

Edit : I am not too worried about the bass driver, if not the original, the volume seems seen everywhere, a mess to change if ported and needs to adapt the port, but very feasible (Seas?) ?

From my point of view, this loudspeaker must be saved and refurbished as a part of a family story.

Damit, by the Qween (well the non as good baby King now) I really believed they were baby Solens' (red side black body) and I didn't change them in the B&W DM14 !

Will do this later, I love that old "Avalon" loudspeakers !
