US Naval pilots "We see UFO everyday for at least a couple of years"

The first one was a lot bigger but unfortunately the pilot could not resist the temptation to shoot at the gondola making the retrieval more time consuming and less revealing.
We will have to wait and see if it was steerable or not.

Not sure why you think he shot the gondola. You can watch the actual shoot down here! I don’t see any debris post impact or an explosion. Looks like the payload flipped up a bit after impact.

Interesting comment in the Reuters Report about the object shot down in Alaska.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-says-it-shot-down-object-over-alaska-size-small-car-2023-02-10/

"Ryder said American pilots who flew alongside the latest object before it was downed determined that no human was aboard. He added it was incapable of maneuvering and did not resemble an airplane. Ryder and other officials would not say whether it could simply be a weather balloon or another type of balloon.
"It wasn't an aircraft per se," Ryder told a news briefing."

No human aboard?, not unmanned"

From CNN website:

“Some pilots said the object “interfered with their sensors” on the planes, but not all pilots reported experiencing that.

Some pilots also claimed to have seen no identifiable propulsion on the object, and could not explain how it was staying in the air, despite the object cruising at an altitude of 40,000 feet.”

CNN today:

“I'm not going to categorize them as balloons. We're calling them objects for a reason,” VanHerck said when asked about the physical characteristics of the objects.
“I'm not able to categorize how they stay aloft. It could be a gaseous type of balloon inside a structure or it could be some type of a propulsion system. But clearly, they're -- they're able to stay aloft,” he added.

BBC News website:

A military commander said it could be a "gaseous type of balloon" or "some type of a propulsion system".
He added he could not rule out that the objects were extra-terrestrials.

US Northern Command Commander General Glen VanHerck said that there was no indication of any threat.
"I'm not going to categorise them as balloons. We're calling them objects for a reason," he said.
"What we are seeing is very, very small objects that produce a very, very low radar cross-section," he added.

In the UK, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said his government would do "whatever it takes" to keep the country safe.
"We have something called the quick reaction alert force which involves Typhoon planes, which are kept on 24/7 readiness to police our airspace, which is incredibly important," he added.

I think that the prevailing winds make ballons from China or even Russia rather unlikely in the UK
