The five-string bass guitar with a low B string was invented in 1976. The low B is 30.87 Hz. And we had the Moog and other synths that could play really low notes. Not to mention acoustic instruments like the organ....
Add Kind of Blue.
The most overrated album in history of jazz music. The moment I hear it my stomach turns over.

Probably the first major pop/rock album. Telarc’s release of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performing some Stravinsky and Borodin is from 1978 and I am pretty sure it’s not the first digitally recorded album.I recall Bop Till You Drop by Ry Cooder being heralded as the first digitally recorded album.
It’s a good demo album.
hmm.... over played absolutely and I can't say I listen to it often these days, but I think it's a good album.Add Kind of Blue.

Some people are fine with listening to the same music over and over, I like finding new things.
Love "Kind Of Blue", but yeah certainly overplayed/overhyped. I've seen it played live with the original drummer Jimmy Cobb.

did you hear the remake called Blue by MOPDTK? It's more or less a note by note copy from a few years ago. Kinda fun, kinda pointless.
I was almost certain that was going to be the subject before I had even looked! What do you want? Diana Krall?
Mannheim Steamroller's "Fresh Aire" still sounds good today. It is an amazing recording for 1975.

Klippel used that for their online blind distortion listening test. That's a great song, and was used a lot for speaker demo's, especially smaller standmounts that didn't have deep bass.

Can't listen to that song any more but I now know what I always strongly suspected: Distortion drive me nuts. The main issues I have with music reproduction is and always has been distortion.
He he , I heard far east speakers built around so popular here 4 " boomers puke on four seasons. Demo guys looked on each other and said, well our customers usually play something far less demanding. . Nothing wrong with you and your friend. I play it every Friday and during Gay month every day ...You will not hear Orff's Carmina Burana in concert volume. Most systems would puke its guts out.
Why not ? I gave my second copies to a non Audiophile GF who never heard of Diana and she loved it. I got sour on Diana after I went to her concert. It was probably one of her weakest days in the career. The band however was a world class, astounding really. But the girl is definitely a Milf. No complaints therePlease no. 😉

I have a recording of danse macabre on Naxos I use a lot partly for the nicely recorded timpani which on a good system are about 6 ft to the left and 20 ft behind the left speaker, but also to hear the musicians turning the pages.
I liked her piano skills, but got tired of her trying to sound like Holly Cole. Some of the "Live In Paris" is good though, and the band really swings. Why not ? I have heard this song so many times in audio show, but never know the title or the singer, because i don't enjoy audiophile song genre. I'm 90's 20's generation
but anyway, nice thread to add my knowledge. just found this song on Deezer

At least for me, Kieth don't go, or Traci Chapman is enjoyable now, more and than ever, as I have never heard it like I do now ;-)
As soon as I get my main amp back up, I will fire up REW to see how low I can really hear...
That, said two of the most memorable surprises for me on my setup, with very low passages that literally shake my house....

My wife suffered from insomnia for many years. We discovered that Aerial Boundaries helped, to some degree, to help her eventually get to sleep. For my part, I literally cannot listen to that album any more.@Mark Johnson I have played all the tracks from Michael Hedges Breakfast in the Field and Live on the Double Planet innumerable times. Saw him in concert in the early 1990s. Loved his pioneering and interesting guitar tunings and instruments. The world lost a great one when he tragically died.
On a somewhat related note, the only thing that would calm my infant granddaughter when everything else failed was Ween's "**** Up A Rope". That one I can still listen to, however.
The recent analog remaster of "One Size Fits All" is nothing short of stunning.A good go to is the remastered "Joes Garage" Great imaging, individual instrument and vocal detail.
It sounds like I might be lucky that I don’t even know what these songs are. Never heard them or heard of them.
Dean Peer’s Earth School from Ucross is pretty good as a demo but it’s a bit sterile.
Home Invasion/Regret #9 from Steven Wilson’s Hand Cannot Erase is pretty cool from the violent bass at the opening to Guthrie Goven’s Gilmouresqe closing guitar solo.
Dire Straits Love Over Gold (the song) for some reason I find pretty amazing. Especially the opening. Nice ambiance.
I am also surprised by some of the sounds on early Crimson albums like Circus. Well defined spaces around the instruments.
Still think Rickie Lee Jones’ first album is great. The upright bass on Easy Money is cool and full of texture.
I was re-listening to Fragile (HDCD from 1999 ish) the other day now that my system is in a new room and I was amazed at how good it sounded.
So many albums I like very much don’t sound that great from an “audiophile “ perspective. Multi-tracked to death, no dynamics but they are at least clean. I try not to get too caught up in it but I can’t help but wish that some of them had more dynamics. I guess that’s my pet peeve 😆.
I do not pretend to have golden ears but I do notice when something isn’t to my liking. Sometimes it’s my system.
First world problem.

That's funny. Takes me way back to "The Rodeo Song".Ween's "**** Up A Rope". That one I can still listen to, however.

Funny I did the listen test at the klippel site both for high frequency hearing and distortion. I was very familiar with the song and my 10 year old had never heard it so I figured i had an advantage but I did very poorly apparently, I don't hear distortion until it's up to about 30db below the fundamental. Up until then I thought I had good hearing. My kid could easily hear it down below 50db down.Klippel used that for their online blind distortion listening test.
