The Beatles: listenig to some of their songs I say to myself: this is the worst band I ever heard.
But listening to some others of their songs, I am sure they are the best band I ever heard.

There are more singers that can do better than 4 octaves if you search. Morten Harket (A-ha) is said to be one at 5. Some can do up to 7. Mariah Carey has an extended range IIRC, but not sure how many octaves.Freddie Mercury had an exorbitant vocal range of four octaves, only bettered by Annie Haslam's six octaves.
I am fairly sure Phil Bailey equals Mercury's range.
Pat Benatar another, largely forgotten. Never really understood the benefit of operatic range for rock. For me virtuosity is more a nice to have than need. In genres where it matters Ella Fitzgerald is preferred over any singer mentioned by far.
Saw Steve Hackett about a month ago, for the third time. Played the entire set list of Seconds Out. Was a great show! The only thing that was off for me and a couple of my friends was the sound mix. Some passages were insanely loud, others too quiet
But all the musicians put on a first rate performance.

Yma Sumac had a legendary unique 8-octave range. There are more singers that can do better than 4 octaves if you search. Morten Harket (A-ha) is said to be one at 5. Some can do up to 7. Mariah Carey has an extended range IIRC, but not sure how many octaves.
