I heard that the Great Lakes are getting a 'bomb-cyclone' storm for Christmas
We got it and the weather is unbearable. -7 degrees F and 40 mph winds. Everybody's staying home. I think I'll skip my daily walk for a couple days. My friend says the snow is iced over and can't be shovelled.
It's supposed to be 40 degrees next week. I'll wait. Maybe go out for Christmas dinner if I can get a ride. For all I know it's cancelled with this weather.
+1 F here and still dropping, though not like the 1 degree loss every 5 minutes I saw this morning at about 6 AM when it was 19 degrees F. With the 20 to 30 MPH wind, the chill index is about -25. This means that I actually had to dig out a pair of shoes that had not been on my feet since last winter. After about an hour with a snow shovel and a snow blower, I decided to give up, the snow wins.42F here and dropping fast……..
The snow blower is useless today as the wind is swirling through the "holler" so you can't find a place to point the chute without a slight change in wind direction resulting in a face full. I shoveled a path to the garbage can and mailbox. That took an hour.
Correct. I was saying that in Vancouver we don’t get freezing rain but being a pretentious city, we feel the need to use the term to keep up with the Jones’ next city over.I thought freezing rain was superchilled water that froze on contact with car/road/nose and sleet was hail/snow that hadnt quite melted?
Edit: I answered Bill before I read Bob’s respons.
Far downeast (north east) coast of Maine, here and now.-13C and dropping for the day with wind gusts to 28KPH.
Just took the dog out. Got 20 meters into it and turned around. Scared the bejabbers out of me. Still light rain, still below freezing.
Local bridges closed, transit, taxis and private rides shut down. Stores closed and police and government warnings on the news and paramedics suggesting it may take quite a while to get to an emergency even though the roads are empty. Vancouver hasn’t had this for decades. Gawd help anyone who has to cross the river.

And.... in that last 2 hours, that local weather-station has gone off-line. I have power so he should have power. Maybe blown off the roof by wind?here and now.
This is from weather underground (Reno, NV) they’re usually on the money. Cold and wet……just like home Bill !So I'm flying to Reno on 26th. I have no idea what conditions to pack for and not convinced I should trust the forecast at the moment...
