Even though we we call that computer thing a ‘rowter’ we refuse to pronounce route properly.
What the electronic gizmo does is to route something, so is pronounced 'rooter'. 🙂
Interesting. In any case this also comes from a class of recently "invented" words, I guess the jargon nature limits their exposure. What the electronic gizmo does is to route something, so is pronounced 'rooter'. 🙂
Rowte is a poor English pronunciation of the French word route. You’d never get your kicks on rowte 66.
I am glad to know that the ’out’ which seems to have an obvious pronunciation is screwed up in more countries than just mine.
Noo doot aboot it.

You can't shake it. Raised in Canada and spent the past 45 years in the USA where they all say I still go "oout and aboout".
Ed, it was of course a story. If my father was still with us he would have turned 95 on Dec 7. He was age 14 on Pearl harbour day. He never did malls and to this day I learn from his wisdom. If only I could remember all of what he offered.
Cal, our fathers were born exactly a year apart. My dad passed in August of 2019; he was 92. Would've turned 96 last Wednesday.

Proof that cats can fit anywhere:
Those are called “heater cats”. In our house we have heater dogs. This one (Dominick) has claimed my side of the bed. There will be some grumping and growling when I go to bed tonight, but eventually he’ll just stay there and keep my feet warm.
