Anyone else noticing this? Remember when you had to memorize stuff, do simple arithmetic, read a map, estimate the time, take something apart and put it back together without a video, etc. Soon you will not have to think at all. Are we already seeing the results?

Indeed, I've noticed this phenomenon increasing over the last couple of decades.
I've seen it first-hand with the younger customers that came into my repair shop.
Even as far back into the 1970's when handheld calculators became available, back then I said that it would cause people to become "lazy" and hinder brain power.

And when GPS came along, I said it would add to the dumbing of brains - how many today have a Road Atlas and know how to use it?
How many people today can manually dial a phone (including a rotary dial) or read an analog clock's time?

Of course, it's all about touting "convenience", saving "time", making things "easier", "labor-saving"...
Sure..... at the expense of becoming a stupid walking zombie!
Utterly dependent on a little battery-operated device.

IQ levels have certainly been compromised, yep!

I find such videos useful because many things have that one hidden screw, or some other "trick" to get it apart w/o damage. Once over that hump, I no longer need the video.

Regarding navigation, I've yet to have my "On Golden Pond" moment.

I would say the smart stuff doesnt necessarily cultivate patience...

The idiot mode is the worst, you know which one I'm talking about, when North isn't where it should be. Looking at the map on the screen, it's not possible to know where you are or where you're going if the map is constantly rotating. It completely prevents the user from learning anything about the environment.

I still try to memorize stuff (but not many phone numbers), practice more complex math in my head, love maps, time… toomany things tell the time to have to guess, but i do, and i could rarely ever out anything i took apart back together (speakers an execution).

And IQ is dropping because there is a strong tendency for less intelligent people to breed more off-spring.

I only used a Garman GPS once for a road trip.
Highly annoying with that female robot voice "turn left at the next road". UGH!
Luckily, I had a printed-up sheet of paper map prepared beforhand.

Thanks, but I prefer to stay "old school" and keep my brain from rotting.

Old men these days! So grouchy! I remember back when I was young - all the old men were are jolly as Santa Claus. And they thought youth and the future held many marvels. Those where the days.
Pano, if you ever met me in person, you'd think I was a crazy coot with my twisted sense of humor.
Fact is, I get along with my neighbors and friends quite well.
And those 5-star appreciation ratings on various websites for my work don't hurt either.

Here in UK the phone zombies are often so strongly welded to there phones that they can some times crash a car and still carry on yapping on the thing with the engine speed still set as it was before impact.
I watched it. The car got converted into a tricycle by a curb stone while the phone zombie inside yapped on.
You can see the chipped curb stone on street view.
