A few years ago I built the Frugal Horn. Would like to build a new full range speaker this year, but not quite sure what design to use : ) .

For this new build I'd like to use a driver that's a bit bigger than the Alpair 7.3 that I previously used.
I'm thinking something like:
- 1x Driver per speaker: 6-8" driver.
- Budget: I don't really have any limit.
- Something that's not too advanced in terms of build but not just a box either if that makes sense. (hopefully not far too advanced compared to the FHMk3)
- It seems hard for me to find good plywood, so will most likely have to make it in MDF :/ (used 15-18 mm thick last time). If anyone in Sweden has some good recommendations where to find the good plywood I'm listening.
- Size: Undecided yet, I guess it depends on the driver too? I wouldn't mind to have something on some nice looking stands. But it's cool to build something bigger too.
- Something that looks nice, gonna try to get a better finish this time, want to go for something that looks high end!
I've been looking at these drivers https://www.soundimports.eu/en/markaudio-maop-102-white.html coming into stock soon it looks like. Might order those, what do you think?
Seem popular looking at other threads.
I've been looking at the images of the Haruna (FE166En ) and Kirishima (FE206En) (looks easier to build than the MK3 even though it has more parts). They look pretty cool. Would they work with the MAOP 10.2? https://www.frugal-horn.com/spawn.html

I am amazed that, living right nxt to where they make the best stuff, you can;t get good plywood.

Thanks for response, been thinking a bunch about this 🙂. The Silbury does look interesting, but after thinking through it a second time I think I don't have any space for it unfortunately. The speaker would completely cover my TV from the side in my current apartment. Maybe when I move apartment 😀

Last time I tried to look for high quality plywood they either wanted you to buy like 5x sheets minimum. Most "home-depot" version in sweden didnt really have the high quality stuff when I last tried to find it.
Anyway, I placed an order on the MAOP 10.2. I'll try to find find some 18mm high quality ply today 🙂!
What is the main difference between the Classic Golden Ratio Mar-Ken10.2 and Mar-Ken10 sound wise? I like that the mar-ken10 is a bit bigger.

Good luck! Good choice. They are back for sale. Ideal volume is 12 litre.
But it works in 20 litre to.
Scottmoose havn't done any boxes for Maop 10.2.
I have tried in hornresp a little.
Dave have done a box for Maop10.2.
MiniOnken for me. I am satisfied with that.

All the miniOnkens of the same volume have the same tuning. Both these would be 13 litres. The more elaborate rectangular miniOnken has a lower diffraction signature. The trapezoid takes that even further. The MAOP miniOnkens so far done are the full-on trapezoid and the CGR. I will do rectangular version when if requested. Optimum volume is larger IIRC.

I could not find 18mm plywood, called one place but they would only deliver minimum 5x of them. I did manage to buy 15mm plywood today though, so I will go for a plan with 15mm. I was thinking of going with the Mar-Ken 10 plans then. I can buy 12mm as well to do the front (2x12mm), but will leave that for another day.
Also, in the plans for the mar-ken 10, the slots are 9.5mm thick. But I think I will have a rough time getting exactly 9.5mm. 9 or 10 is probably easier, got any tips for solving this? Is the best option to get 10mm and try sand it down a bit? Or is it acceptable to use 9 or 10mm?

Ah okay. Not sure if I misunderstand, but the MAOP 10.2 in the Mar-ken is a good option?

Well if you want to do a design for a rectangle box similar to the mar-ken 10 I'll definitely build it! Usually easiest for me at finding wood in 3mm increments.
(Plans based on Mark Audio drivers are $25 USD - from your other thread) is no problem for me as well 🙂

You still need to buy the planset to get me moving.
I should note that to get sufficient thickness for the bezel rebate the baffle needs to be either 18mm or 2x15mm (or 2x12mm)

2x15mm shouldn't be an issue since I have that already 🙂 Or if the vents are 12mm I would most likely get a lot of that thickness too.

Thought I would update. Finished painting them, have played maybe 40-50 hours on them so far so still a bit to go. They look really clean!
