Gas prices

Lawmakers in Ontario seem out to lunch when creating traffic laws specific to "distracted driving". To continue on your point, on the 401 highway there are signs indicating penalties involved for engaging in going a multiplicity of variant speeds, include those travelling in excess of 50 km/hr. These are of such length that it requires travelling far under the posted speed limit in order to finish the reading of them. In other words, so distracting and dangerous to finish in the "engaged" comprehensive reading of them that they exist in a contradiction to "distracted" driving.

I see SO many people using phones while driving on our busy roads and streets. Along the 401 too of all places. Some people just don't get it. I'm extra adamant about that it's almost gotten me killed on my streetbike more than once.

Slap a year suspension on them, they will get the idea lol, maybe.

Drivers with suspended licenses are hard to catch.
Prison is harsh...
It is a dilemma.

They get caught they always do sooner or later it will catch up to them. I know a guy who was caught driving while suspended 4 times that I know of. He has done jail time at least twice that I know about. Its been years far as I know he hasn't been driving. He might of finally gotten the message. I kind of doubt it but maybe.

The discussion here is about gas prices...
The reaction all over the world has been one of surprise. As if they did not know of this problem.

The war will be over in a few days, and the post fracas scene for Europe, which needs a lot of Russian gas, will be interesting to watch.

I mold plastics, and with the opening up of shale gas supplies a few years back, North American resin prices were so low that the area became a net exporter of resin, previously resin was imported from Persian Gulf based plants.
Plastic resin is made from gas, either from fields or part of the petroleum refining process.
Earlier, naptha and kerosene were used as raw materials for plastic resin production.

Some huge investments were made by Qatar to transport gas as LNG to the USA, before shale gas went commercial.
Qatar has the world's largest natural gas reserves, or is high up on that list.
That fleet of tankers, and gasification plants, is in a position to be up and running at short notice.

My take is that this is due to too much coffee, and speculative trades.
Maybe we should restrict the intake of coffee by traders?

I knew somebody who died in a car accident, he was alone in the car.
Seems he never had a license, paid off police who stopped him.
Age 38, died 2001.
Even his car had the previous owner's name in the registration. Did not transfer it for more than a year.
How can you punish such people?

You can say that.

Oh, he had many problems...black sheep of a respectable family.
Car flipped on to house size boulders, instant death.

The registering state was 1400 km away, car was registered to a departing diplomat who had given it to a broker, when leaving the country after his tenure ended.

The dead man was used to long drives, often driving 500 km and more at a time.
He was based in Mumbai, car was registered in Delhi.
Accident was in a rural jurisdiction outside Mumbai.
Took time to connect the dots.

Insurance did not pay out, either. You need a license for a motor claim here in India. And since he was alone, personal insurance also was not paid, deliberate self harm or such.

Very interesting calculator! I took some time to enter precise values. I thought my footprint would be minimal, because I don't own a car, travel by bike and train, I don't eat too much meat, don't buy clothes often and so on... But still my footprint seems to be big. And there was no possibility to enter how much smartphones, laptops or electronic parts I buy every year. I think one of my biggest "sins" is to order all my parts through mouser or Digikey and they are shipped through airfreight from USA to Germany..

edit:
WWF Calculator says It still takes 3 planets if everyone wants to live like I do 😭😥

This sign seems dated, as I expect the best value point doesn't exist any more, appearing more as a menu special for speeders at the time. The speed limit on the 401 is currently 100 km/h (as an aside the 403 is being tested at 110 km/h). I believe the newer signs are more treatise based... as including of speeding above 150 km/h (not sure about any fine print that might link to website though)
