Where does that place you on the chart then, Jan? 😛the whole thing sucks
Some strong emotions here.
Emotion is the uncharted third dimension!

Definitely random 4-state fluctuation.where do you sit on the '[ER vs SO' Audio plane?
Bonsai, nice pic. KaffiMann was just ahead of me, but I might be even more all over the place than he is, depending on issue at hand, time of day and state of mind. My wavering is the only constant.
The problem was that while I can claim that I like to get close to the ideal of being a true objectivist, that is my subjective opinion.
So: objectivity/(subjective+opinion)= that value would then be much reduced on a scale such as this...
I also like a bit of distortion in the right doses, knowing full-well what it is and why I like it, so I want my sound systems to be dead silent and have a very high THD+N throughout the intended bandwidth, only to in some cases, add a bit of distortion to get it juuuuuust right...
Not being a particularly emotional creature, that again may be influenced by opinion, opinion is highly influenced by emotion, so perhaps I do have some emotion still? So I cannot argue that I am being rational all the time because that would also be irrational...
So Random 4-state fluctuation would be likely correct, the stuff in the middle makes no sense to me.
I think OCD would be the Z axis.
Edit:
I have this on vinyl, and my subjective opinion is that vinyl has significantly higher SQ than u-t00b but less than a proper lossless format file, it starts proper at around the 1 minute mark:
Edit2:
I see myself as "Chaotic Good" in moral alignment, if that helps.

The trick is to ask others how they see you...
Sounds like something a psychologist would say. The research shows that the way people see themselves and the way other people see them are often in disagreement. People know what they see going on inside their own heads. Judging other people must be done from external observation. Yet humans are better at seeing other people's faults than their own faults. Just part of human nature.

No, you're not subjective. We're all completely objective. Surely, you know that. 🙂 But, I, too, tire of the same old questions which have been asked and answered in audio mags since the 1970s. Doesn't anyone ever buy an actual book anymore? 🙁 Running around the same tree year after year does get old. But, it's kind of like the weather girl telling us to wear a jacket every time it gets a little chilly. The new DIYAudio forum face looks good, by any technical standards, and with a few improvements could be close to perfect.
Then why am I subjectively no longer tempted to open the forum and post? It is not the quality of the current existing content, this followed a down path for years now, it's not the bore of endlessly teaching the basics like the Ohm law, it's not the endlessly seeing the same dusty implementations of 50 years old concepts and circuit topologies, it's not reading again and again the same stupid/wrong advice and being tired of rebuking and streamlining the topics.
It's simply no longer having fun to get involved in what I subjectively perceive as an impersonal and unfriendly virtual environment. Or I am getting too old for this ****. Or I need a new hobby.
One to another, I subjectively find the new forum format annoying, which is a nice way to say I hate it. BTW, I am turned off by the ASR forum as well (same software, I infer).
I think they do get books but what you see here is the statistical tail that is impossible to get rid of. Either we answer or not. It will nor go away. It's OK I think.

I know I can't be placed on the graph as there is no 'idiocy' axis 😉Sounds like something a psychologist would say. To be in the same "club" with JC and NP, shouldn't the person have some notable credential in audio electronics?
Credentials are something for the z axis.
I can always add it on the z axis if you like 😉I know I can't be placed on the graph as there is no 'idiocy' axis 😉
Agree. My wife is the psychologist - you need to be one to be married to me.Sounds like something a psychologist would say. If you work in industry, you may have come across a process called a ‘360’. Typically administered by HR or an external consultant, they will send a questionnaire out to 20 or so work colleagues asking for anonymous feedback on a wide range of traits covering personality, leadership, integrity etc. For almost all that go through the process, the feedback comes as a complete shock. Some of it good, some of it bad. Humbling and good for taking one down a peg or two.

We are all subjective! If you into audio you know this!
I don’t remember the old forum really I just logged in a week ago for a build I am considering. The design of the web has become less is more, even if that less removes functions people know and live or obfuscating them to a deep menu level.
As for you needing a new hobby? Do you still do audio stuff?

Ha ha - good one. At least you have defined points - I’m sort of smeared all over the place and especially after half a bottle of vinoDefinitely random 4-state fluctuation.View attachment 1025353
I think jam would be upset that his apprentice is placed in the "club" before him.I can always add it on the z axis if you like 😉
