Hey all, I have a Bel Canto Evo 200.2 (Tripath based) and the Samwha caps looks to have a bulge on the top - now I have seen this before on these Samwha caps, so I do not know if this is really a problem or not. Is this normal for these Samwha caps? These are roughly 20 years old and amp playing perfectly fine - no noises or any other issues...
Are Samwha Caps good caps?
I really do not want to replace them unless they are needing to be replaced...
My adage - if its not broken, don't break it...

Bel Canto Design's Head Engineer says you should replace them with 63V 10,000uF Caps, ASAP!

Samsung’s Samwha capacitors have rightfully earned a bad reputation for premature failure. I recommend replacement of any Samwah capacitors, even any others that happen to appear undamaged.
Those Apex Jr. private label capacitors are almost certainly far better than what were originally used, but I prefer better known brands from an electronics distributor like Digikey or Mouser. Nichicon, United Chemicon, or Panasonic are my usual choices when searching for replacement.
Edit: Excellent choice, while those are somewhat expensive, they will save money because you are unlikely to need to replace them again.

Thanks for all the help -
I just pulled the Evo 200.2 amp out of the system until the caps are replaced, and dropped in the KSA-50 Krell Clone.
The newly purchased EVO 200.2 sounded very musical and smooth (based on the Tripath TA0104A)... I think I will keep it as I have the matching Bel Canto SEP2 Tube (6922) Preamp. Nice combo.

And loose 20000uf in the powerbank. Evo use 4 50vdc 15000uf. Strange advise from BC.Bel Canto Design's Head Engineer says you should replace them with 63V 10,000uF Caps, ASAP!
6 caps of 15000uf, loss of 30000uf actually even more strange.
I have a evo4 gen4, going to recap it. This one har 120000uf powerbank, not going too loose 40000uf😁

John said that you need the "63V caps and that the 10,000uF would be fine". If you go above the 15KuF then you run the risk of popping the rectifier diodes from the inrush current. Later units had 63V caps because some peoples line voltage ran quite high. Hope this helps
63v is better yes. Think my evo4 has 45V output from the transformer. Reason why i asked ? about the capacitance is for other readers of this thread. So they don't use 10000uf instead of 15000uf.I believe he meant 63v caps instead of 50v caps...not the actual capacitance value...
I have tried 18000uf on mine, don't do that😁. 230v 16A housefuse blowes😄.
Thank you for make it more clear👍. I have ordered 63V 15000 allready. And has a evo 200.4 on the way on the mail. Red protection light comes on, when you turn up the volum. Bought it for 150$, so wondring what causes it to go in protection.John said that you need the "63V caps and that the 10,000uF would be fine". I will try that out, when i get it.
I guess you think about the Power on and Operation part?
I will try that out, when i get it.
Ghost og the evo200.4 is back. Unstable dc output om the right channel.
Left is good 👍. So have a reference board.
Haven't had time too look at it yet.
Anyone have and idea where til start looking for this error?
Now adjutable dc bias in this amplifier. So it has fixed dc i think.

The TA0103 / 4 / 5 amps should have a DC offset pot... not familiar with yours, but should have one...
Can't see any adj pot on the board. The TA0103 / 4 / 5 amps should have a DC offset pot... not familiar with yours, but should have one...
