Some speaker driver measurements...

How do you distinguish between "review" vs "measurements" articles, and what is the HiFiCompass "mark" based upon?
"Measurements" are just "dry" measurements, no more.
HiFiCompass "mark" is my personal subjective rating of a specific speaker driver. It takes in account the following factors:

- objective technical measurements
- subjective listening impressions
- applicability
- the price
- any others, which have much less weight

There is no a precise formula connecting all these factors. A speaker may be very simple and cheap, has ordinary measurements but at the same time have quite good sound and incredible perfomance/price ratio. I applaud the manufacturer - 5 stars:

Vifa OC25SC65-04 | HiFiCompass

Another case, there is a much better sounding and technically more impressive speaker, but having a technical flaw (resonance at 8.5 kHz), which is unacceptable for its price. So, just 4 stars:

Accuton BD25-6-258 | HiFiCompass

Accuton BD25-6-258 - that is so bloody ordinary ! And you are testing the better sample at that price the pair should be a perfect match

I tried to register on your site, but after getting e-mail in ukrainian that my account is waiting to be accepted, how long I have to waiting for acceptance?

Thank you

It could be polemic but did you consider a subjective better sound classement (so without Q/P ratio) for instance: drivers marked by a star per what is making Humble Homemade >Hifi for his subjective prefered capacitors. As an illustration you already said you liked a lot the Elipticor mid for you daily speakers...and so on ?!

With what the site offers, I think such a feature would actually be a negative.

So, you want to tell us that SB, Scan, Seas,Morel, Eton, Visaton, Accuton, Peerless, HiVi, TB,and many others, don't have their own engineering?

Some of the ones you're naming right now, no they don't.
In fact, a couple of them use the same 3rd party company. *
Some of them do a bit of a mixed bag, and some even have quite a bit of rebranding.

Is that such a weird new information?
I thought that was like known for many years.

* For the engineering parts, production is something else again.

B_Force is right regarding the engineering. Additionally, it is widely known for years that many of the driver components, such as. e,g many Scan Speak parts (surrounds, cones), are sourced from Dr. Kurt Müller in Krefeld. The slit SS cones come straight from Müller. Nowadays the Chinese are more and more producing these components. On other words, all forms of outsourcing, including engineering, have been widely used in the audio industry for decades. It must be said that SS, Seas and Vifa/Tympany do most of the engineering "in house"
@PKI: You'' d be surprised where companies a.s e.g. Polk get their stuff..
