Yes, you are absolutely right, NE123 is a true 4" speaker and its Sd is the main atribute of this. Fixed that too🙂Maybe nitpicking, but the NE123 is listed as a 3" driver, and the WF120 is listed as 4.8" driver. They are the same size. Sd of both is 54cm^2.
"Measurements" are just "dry" measurements, no more. How do you distinguish between "review" vs "measurements" articles, and what is the HiFiCompass "mark" based upon?
HiFiCompass "mark" is my personal subjective rating of a specific speaker driver. It takes in account the following factors:
- objective technical measurements
- subjective listening impressions
- applicability
- the price
- any others, which have much less weight
There is no a precise formula connecting all these factors. A speaker may be very simple and cheap, has ordinary measurements but at the same time have quite good sound and incredible perfomance/price ratio. I applaud the manufacturer - 5 stars:

Another case, there is a much better sounding and technically more impressive speaker, but having a technical flaw (resonance at 8.5 kHz), which is unacceptable for its price. So, just 4 stars:

Accuton BD25-6-258 - that is so bloody ordinary ! And you are testing the better sample at that price the pair should be a perfect match

Yes, there is such a problem that we will solve in the coming months. I'm sorry for inconvenience.@HiFiCompass

Absolutely!🙂.... at that price the pair should be a perfect match
It could be polemic but did you consider a subjective better sound classement (so without Q/P ratio) for instance: drivers marked by a star per what is making Humble Homemade >Hifi for his subjective prefered capacitors. As an illustration you already said you liked a lot the Elipticor mid for you daily speakers...and so on ?!
That is a good idea. I have been keeping it in my mind for a long time but unfortunately have no time to bring it to life. Maybe a bit later🙂

With what the site offers, I think such a feature would actually be a negative. It could be polemic but did you consider a subjective better sound classement (so without Q/P ratio) for instance: drivers marked by a star per what is making Humble Homemade >Hifi for his subjective prefered capacitors. wow, HD is very good. And "only" a +4 db break-up at 6K5 hz... perhaps due to the lack of mushroom ?
Good HD measurements have to see with low efficienty (Purifi, SS, etc) ??

The majority of these companies don't have their own engineers, but let the speakers design by a 3rd party company.
So, you want to tell us that SB, Scan, Seas,Morel, Eton, Visaton, Accuton, Peerless, HiVi, TB,and many others, don't have their own engineering? The majority of these companies don't have their own engineers, but let the speakers design by a 3rd party company.

Some of the ones you're naming right now, no they don't.
In fact, a couple of them use the same 3rd party company. *
Some of them do a bit of a mixed bag, and some even have quite a bit of rebranding.
Is that such a weird new information? 😕
I thought that was like known for many years.
* For the engineering parts, production is something else again.

B_Force is right regarding the engineering. Additionally, it is widely known for years that many of the driver components, such as. e,g many Scan Speak parts (surrounds, cones), are sourced from Dr. Kurt Müller in Krefeld. The slit SS cones come straight from Müller. Nowadays the Chinese are more and more producing these components. On other words, all forms of outsourcing, including engineering, have been widely used in the audio industry for decades. It must be said that SS, Seas and Vifa/Tympany do most of the engineering "in house"
@PKI: You'' d be surprised where companies a.s e.g. Polk get their stuff..

Yeah, very typical for former Eastbloc companies. Videon and Tesla basically did the same: making every component in house.
To be very honest, the vast majority of products we buy are not engineered in-house.
Yet they make you believe they do.
I had to sign quite some NDA's over the years.
