Looks nice
(and has to), since it could be your LF for years, whether or not you decide to keep the array. So make sure it's satisfactory in all ways.

Cabinets are done.
Waiting for array baffle so i can assemble it.

Very nice, doc. Did you try playing something?
Thx guys 🙂
Yes, tho array speakers are wreaking havoc the way they are sitting right now, and i only finished one speaker. Once again connected to a small Aiwa amp, which is the worst amp i ever ever used 😀 I am pretty sure it has a built in DSP filter that makes it sound like a radio and you cant turn it off 😀
Dont want to connect only one speaker to the tube amp, so im waiting until all is finished.
Other than that, i must say, big box and big driver makes up for some serious bass extension 🙂 Even with Aiwa amping it, it sounds gentle and powerful, like its gently caressing you with hand over your cheek, but ready to smack you to oblivion at moments notice 🙂

Heyo guys,
My array baffle is finally being finished, so soon i will assemble everything 🙂
Array baffle will be from oak wood. I will use silicon to bind to the alu housing.
Tho i have a question regarding power handling of speakers..
First, power handling of woofer is 250w while single array speaker is 5w
So lets say i feed 12w of voltage to the speaker, if i understand correctly they would be split right ?
So 6w will go to woofer and 6w will go to 6x array speakers. And single array speaker will get 1w ?
Is this correct ?
So in total i can push 60w per speaker for its maximum ( i will be using oh so much less, i tested yesterday with my Kenwood amp, was pushing around 10-15w and its ungodly loud 😀 )

?? [6] tweeters can only handle 5 W or x 6 = 30 W?
1x Tweeter can handle 5 W
6x Tweeters in array should then handle 30 W (But i dont know if its split that way or not, 1/6 equal parts, that is part of my question)
They should split equally but for the small impedance differences between units. However, I don't think you need to worry as power handling is usually not an issue in such applications.

Hi all, long time no see 🙂
I finally made a array baffle that works, i have installed small speakers on it, but problem is, wood itself is little bit curved so it wont lay flat on aluminium body. Im going to use either general adhesive or epoxy one, tho im bit afraid if i put epoxy and i have to fix something, its going to be really hard to remove it.
I clamped array baffle wood to the aluminum, hoping it will unbend and straighten itself somehow, hoping it will yield some results.
All in all, should be finished in day or two.

Here is final assembly. All things considered, it was a tough ride, but we managed in the end 🙂 There are some minor details to be fixed, like repainting some parts and placing speakers in theirs final position, more pic to follow 🙂

Nice speakers (carpets as well), how do you think they sound, with the array and all?
Thx 🙂
I like the sound, tho im sitting bit close to them so array cant fully open up. Today after i finish work i will place them so that listening couch and chairs will be ~4m away, so it should be ok.
Connected to 3.6w class A SE amp, it sounds mellow and sweet, im still waiting for components to burn in, but they are opening nicely, i listen them for 2hrs yesterday maybe.
I will definitely need a bigger amp, the more i think about it, hybrid approach seems tempting, tube preamps with power amp either class AB or D.
Speaker can handle ~60w in total, but i would say 20-30w will be more than enough (tested one speaker with around 15w, its gets pretty loud 🙂 )
So any recommendations are welcome 🙂

im still waiting for components to burn in...
If you can, play out of phase sinewaves (at fs) into the speakers for few hours and the suspension would be broken in without much difficulty (or loud sounds).
hybrid approach ..... class AB or D.
Amplifiers based on LM3886 and TPA3255 are considered decent stuff for these power levels, in the class AB and D categories respectively.

Cool, thx Virus, i was recommended LM3886 before, and its not that expensive, tho TPA3255 i cant find in my country.
I will spam amp board a bit, maybe someone has some nice schematics 🙂
maybe someone has some nice schematics
National's reference design for LM3886 including PCB layout and BOM is free to use. According to them, the performance figures (not bad at all) given by the datasheet were obtained using the reference design itself.
I think i have decided on the amp.
its going to be a 6v6 tube preamp with paired with "SEWA" 7w class A SE mosfet, or popular name would be OTA 😛
I guess this is as good as it gets in class A SE, without adding parallel amps for more power.

Ok i changed my mind once again, now im 99% thinking this build
Babelfish M25 R.2/SET amp
PRO's
+ Guy selling kit is my countryman, so easy communication/support from his side
+ everything is local
+ very linear with minimal THD
+ modular design, minimal work required from my side, which is biggest plus
+ decent output considering class A, 20W @8R
CON's
- Bit expensive, looking around 500-600e for kit + trafo's + chassis
- Requires preamp, but builder say i can get away with 2v from my DAC line output
Tho there are two versions he is offering, M25 and SET, M25 being more linear, while SET having bit more "fattness" to it ? i dont really know, which one would sit better with my speakers.

Hello guys, just a few updates on my end..
I got myself a very nice amp Nelson Pass F5 with dual mono PS and cap bank. 25w@8ohm in Class A PP, works really nice.
Tho since i only feed it 2v from DAC, i could use some small preamp to get that last few watts or so... Any recommendation on this end ? I was thinking of making a small tube preamp with ECC82 Siemens tube i have laying around, havent been used so far.
Here are some pics from final position (not final final, but will work for now) and amp
