I don't agree with the premise, 412know1seeks. There's simply nothing to support an illogical reason. Missing people aren't an uncommon occurrence. There are entire tv series devoted to it. They're still looking for D.B. Cooper; there's no reason to believe he's living in another dimension.
New species are discovered quite regularly. Maybe bigfoot will be one of them at some future time. Until then, footprints and hokey videos aren't sufficient to remove serious doubt.

No radio waves are being received by SETI from aliens. What use is light speed radio when your are travelling faster than light? Let’s say that tomorrow, we figure out how to travel faster than light, and receive the technological benefits that go along with that discovery. Are we likely to use a an old inefficient technology like radio wave transmission moving forward? Being able to travel faster than light should also lead to technology that allows us to communicate at speeds faster than light as well. I guessing it’s probably likely. So, with respect to SETI, where does that leave every civilization that has developed FTL technology with respect to ongoing radio transmission? Let’s say we discover FTL space travel next year and then gradually transition out of our use of radio over the next 100 years. That leaves us with a window of just over 200 years worth of inadvertent broadcasting to the universe through radio transmission. In order for us to receive radio transmissions from alien civilizations, we would have to be listening at exactly the right time to intercept a 200 year or so long transmission window. We are listening now because we automatically assume that an advanced civilization like our own (laughably) is using radio to communicate. The Fermi paradox is based on our being unable to confirm that there is anyone else out there. If we are listening for radio signals, we are unlikely to ever find anyone else.

Anthropomorphism is the problem. We just can’t get away from the assumption that what we know is all that there is to know. So aliens don’t exist because their existence isnt supported by our understanding of physics. This is the case even though we know that we only have a portion of the entirety of physics figured out. There are no aliens out there because we don’t receive radio transmissions from space. Do we ask why aliens would even bother with our current radio technology?

All I know for certain is that we don’t know enough to confirm or refute the existence of advanced life forms other than our own. So let’s have a conversation, but any absolute statements made indicate that someone hasn’t thoroughly thought it through.

A valid point. I don't know the physics well enough to get deep into it. Scientists have perceived echoes of the Big Bang - is there some similarity with the radio wave transmissions at issue?
Additionally, it is my understanding that what is being "listened for" is not radio waves or radio communications. Space is full of the former. And rather than the latter per se, it's simply radio wave information that is being sought. Information then suggesting some intelligent origin.

this is just the same old same old - since we can’t justify the existence of aliens based on any known science or observation we invoke yet to be discovered FTL science that may contradict all known observations of the universe to date. It’s a valid thought experiment, a valid supposition and we can let it lead discussion. But once you remove the constraint that it matches up with all current reasonable understanding of science you basically can go anywhere you want, there is no longer any limit except your imagination. This is the realm of science fiction and not the realm of the likely to be true. Nobody can argue with you, you are free to posit any crazy scheme you like. It has no proof, no validation, it can only attract ‘believers’. It can’t be used to set rational policy. We need something more tangible.

What happens if a civilization is using a type of technology that is required for communications at faster than light interstellar travel? What about trickle down of that technology to alien consumer level communications? What if the communication devices don’t use an energy source that we know about? What if the communication devices use a “spectrum” that we don’t know about? Etc. Etc. Etc.

The onus is on them, not us to receive it. They're sending it and know what is required for us to receive it.

IOW, they will accommodate our technological capability

That's sci-fi from the 50's, no?..taakkke mmmee ttoo yourr leeaaderrr. 🙂
Why assume that they want to communicate with us at all? I normally don’t try to converse with the hippo when I go to the zoo, although I’m there to see it.
