Power supplies with ramp up voltage of 0V to 16V in 200ms should work fine with Sylph-D200. If your linear power supply has a slow ramp up speed, you can provide a separate power supply for the housekeeping regulator (24V 1A is fine). Just remove DS1, then under CS1 you can place an external 24V DC supply.

Though you need to test it with your 36V smps first to verify if the ramp up voltage is really the culprit.

With a cheapo 36v smps and opamps in the correct way....it all fires up! Only very briefly as no load on the outputs. But all blue lights present. Either im stupid or these opamp adaptors are misleading!

So I shall try with my old school psu next.

Edit....
You're right about the ramp up speed. I guess I have some caps to charge which leads to a slow turn on.
Plugged in and turned on and it didn't start. So I unplugged the amp....let the caps charge and then connected. Sparks ensued and amp fires up! It is on 24/7 so this isn't an issue now its on.

Playing music now and shall leave to play for a good run in. If that's needed!

Thanks Lester.

I saw your large capacitor bank before so I suspected the voltage ramp-up speed.

There's an SMT cap under the board, try to replace it with 1uF, 0805. It will delay the startup of inverting buck boost regulator further and might fix your problem. Don't put too much capacitance because it is for the turn-on delay of negative supply of the opamps. If the negative supply of the opamps turns on much later than the voltage supervisor (1100ms), there will be a huge turn-on plop. Limit the delay to 900ms or lower.

I see, just do it next time since we don't know the ramp up speed of your linear supply. Only one SMT is there for V1.

Also for V1, replacing C11 and C16 with 1uF 35V tantalum, amd 100uF 25V electro for AVDD will be a worthy mod.

Regards,
Lester

Your board is Sylph-d200 V1, latest shipment version is V1P, it is the same except that the caps C11, and C16 are now electro caps and moved under the PCB. (so no modifications are needed for the latest shipments)

JLesterP,

Looks like IRFP(B)4227s are out of stock at my usual distributors (mouser and digikey), without a restock for a year or so! Any suggested replacements for your JLE-2000D? I may actually get around to building a subwoofer and amp this year.

I've just acquired one of these;

ATS-TI1OP-519-C1-R3

Noting the power supply requirements on the website;

Recommended Power Supply
  • Single supply SMPS 48V DC, 200W or higher.
  • Should be able to handle large load capacitance and should normally operate on light load (~5W).

Can anyone recommend a suitable fanless power supply for it. A reputable brand, like Meanwell. I don't mind Open-frame.

If you have a suitable amplifier chassis, you can opt for SE-450-48. Just remove the fan and top casing cover.

https://www.mouser.ph/ProductDetail/MEAN-WELL/SE-450-48

Newer meanwell supplies (like RPS-500-48) with extremely low no load power consumption have a "burst mode operation" which sometimes become audible, so they are not suitable with audio applications. (It can be disabled but it requires disassembly / IC circuit tracing / modifications of the SMPS)

Also look for SMPS with fosc of 100kHz or higher.
