DIY Sony VFET lottery discussion

8 hours drive is considered close in US? ....it does not look far at the map.
The top system with the two large conical horns +sub pr. channel could be fun to listen to. Then VFET should only drive the two horns as the subs have own amplifiers.
They make a full system with tube amps and turntables. It is an expensive system.....but now we have the amp for it......

From where I live, it is an ~8 hour drive to the top of Ohio and a ~13 hour drive to the bottom of Florida. I have driven both for my day job.

California would be days of driving.

Yes, they use Pennsylvania hardwoods for the horns. Also some stone they call "Slate" for the turntable to make it "dead".

50k is considered a long way to work (Copenhagen - Kalundborg is 100k). I have 15k which is considered about normal and a nice 1/2 hour bicycle ride.

Yes, I remembered that 1 gallon = 1 liter here if we compare prices. It is tax!!
The Mercury Grand Marquis with V8 engine I rented also consumed a little more than I was used to.

I wonder if you could go to OMA with you own amp and try it out.....he probably knows who Mr. Pass is.....but maybe not what a VEFT is. We can tell him it is a SE Triode amp....using NOS triodes.

The OMA are interesting but they seem wrong to me. I could be wrong i haven’t heard any.

I would think it would instill the opposite of buyers remorse. Anyone who spends that kind of money on speakers will claim they are the best ever to be conceived and produced.

I'm assuming they are ridiculously expensive, like $100k +

Speaking of horns... has anyone here tried the JBL 4367? I'm seriously eyeing these as a possible future, used (new-to-me) pair, and may also pair nicely with some of these DIY VFETs. The 10W version may work just fine, but sounds like most prefer to power these with at least 30W (I'm thinking 2SK182 could be sweet).

A good pair of used 4367's and the Cornwall IV's are on my short list, but being more "niche", there's not a whole lot of comparisons out there with the 4367. :/

I love JBLs. I have Hartsfields and recently bought 4410 monitors for a 2nd system. I’m not familiar with 4367, so I looked them up. 94db seems quite low. If you’re going with a speaker that big and heavy I’d expect high 90’s to 100 ish. I have a feeling that compression driver is padded way down because the 15” isn’t horn loaded. All that said, have you heard them? Your ears will tell you if you like them or not!

Sadly they won’t let any pro reviewers do a review of their speakers

after all these years, things interesting me ........ I have people of trust to ask about, so no interest in "pro reviews"

besides fact of me not trusting in general trends of reviewing

though, here I can see some established names, but dunno what they were allowed :
