DIY Sony VFET lottery discussion

If you'd like to be more hands-on, you might consider starting a thread and have the winner make a donation to one of the registered charities.

Ah, this is an interesting thought! I'm happy enough to send them to Nelson for inclusion with the upcoming kits, though making them available in exchange for a donation to this site or the charities you've linked is also a nice idea!

Something worth mentioning - Nelson really put in the hard yards on the output stages, semi-assembling and testing the most tricky parts on all 360 of them including the VFETs to ensure everyone building the amp had the best possible chance to not ruin their project. This was to ensure that anyone building the amp, even "advanced beginners", had a good chance of a successful build. 360 channels built up by hand to try and ensure everyone had a big smile on their face when they hit the power switch for the first time... what a guy

The VFET-less output stage kits planned for batch 3 will, as I understand it, by definition not be tested because they don't have VFETs, and not be semi-assembled. They are intended for more sophisticated and experienced DIYers who already have their VFETs and are less likely to make mistakes.

I also want to thank the members of this forum, who have contributed to a community worthy of receiving a gift so extraordinary that it has to be exceedingly rare, if not the first of it's kind.

And special thanks to those members who have initiated new projects, and those that have helped others learn, as well as implement those projects.

Thanks also to the moderators who have helped to shape and create this community into what it is....amazing!

Nelson is a fantastic designer – that we all know from listening to his amps. But it is also interesting to evaluate him as a person and his state of mind. Namely, the fact that years through he gives his time and effort to us who have nothing to give him back, is beautiful and respectable. And this is by no means self-evident in a world, where the benefit perspective often goes first. Also often when you have reached a certain respected status (as he has in the amp world), it’s easy to forget the challenges, needs and hopes of the average person - keeping in touch with this is not self-evident, it requires the will to do that. And that's beautiful.

Sure, he does say he gets joy from this community, but that also says something beautiful about his state of mind.

Thank you Nelson! :cheerful:

the csx1 is probably the best and the most undervalued of all the VFets Amplifiers on the forum, to own one is to have already won the lotery :)

Fully agree. The problem with the CSX1 is that it was present in basic document form, while the CSX2 was presented with fully made PCB (still available today at DIYAudiostore.com) and component kit and even the chassis supplies with angle mounting brackets were easily available for purchase. Even more convincing 6L6's online build tutorial. The CSX1 didn't stand a chance.

Permaneder (may he RIP) made boards for the CSX1 and my guess would be only some 50 pairs went out. How many of these boards were actually finished? Well i've searched high and low online and found only a handful of finished examples. With the new Sony VFet offering - it's less likely anyone would look at building CSX1 or the CSX2.

I'm eager to see how much different in sound of the current single ended VFet offering and know of no one else in the forum that would be able to evaluate BOTH VFet builds side by side. :)

Hi Jason,

so, the kits for batch 3 will include all parts, also the IRF250? As this part in TO3 package is also unobtanium.

Thanks,

Ulf

Shipping confirmation for the chassis received from Hifi2000. Shipment goes from Italy to France, FedEx tracking details come in Portuguese... I didn't know ZM was involved babelfishing the thingy... ;)

EDIT: No need to mention there was a 2 hour documentary last night on TV about the tower of Babel, that I watched of course

How very conscientious. May the universe return your goodwill. Of course this is up to you, I'd rather be at arms length. Testing, warranties etc. But since you asked me to reply, I think if you send them to the same place the ones in your kit have come from (Nelson), they'll be assured to go to a good home and balance will be restored to the universe. If you'd like to be more hands-on, you might consider starting a thread and have the winner make a donation to one of the registered charities.

Wow, how thoughtful, Eric. This is a great idea. I had picked up a couple pair of Tokins. If I end up winning a Sony kit, I'll commit to sending back a pair to Papa as well. Spread the love. :)
