DIY Sony VFET lottery discussion

Could you please clarify (what's probably I already know) do I need any specific/not common part to complete the amp? For example pads, PSU, other passive components? Just want to order stuff in advance as mouser takes longer to ship lately. Thanks!

Solder and tools, that's it.

Skill level wise, this is an "advanced-beginner to intermediate" level project not suitable for a first time builder, but a good next step for someone who has already built something like the ACA and looking for a more difficult project to progress to. It doesn't use mains power, so it's also suitable for anyone who doesn't want to take on the risks and responsibilities of a mains powered project.

Brilliant.

If I may ask Jason, what are the dimensions of the heat sinks and the chassis overall?

Rough dimensions coming in at a very tidy and svelt—
in inches:
11.5 Wide x 12.5 Deep x 7.5" high from the floor

metric:
292mm W x 318mm D x 190mm H

Add some depth for the VERY nice jacks.

Incidentally—around 115F on the top of the sinks, dropping to mid 90s midway down, about 108F on the body of a Vfet. Brick is tepid to the touch. Sweet! Been running this for a couple of days, all types of music. Vinyl and hi-res digital (plus movies)—it's fabulous (and an honor to get to play it ahead of the curve so to speak).

I must be one of the early ones to receive Jason's link to make the purchase.

As a heads up to those that don't already know, shipping prices have sky rocketed a lot since last year (at least where I am in NZ). To give you an idea:

Anotherwords, to buy the chassis the extra price would be $342.42 USD. This was the same issue I had in picos "Ultimate 4U 500mm Chassis". Shipping large items is big bucks to NZ :|

Currently the only FedEx shipping options from Hifi2000 to NZ and AU are FedEx priority (everywhere else we can ship FedEx Economy which is about 2/3 that).

Air freight has doubled or tripled in some cases, and due to that bulk sea freight has also jumped similarly. It's going to take international travel to go back to normal to recreate all that extra free baggage space on planes for carriers to ride along with, to allow prices to drop.

Hey Now,
Received my email now I have to go to the bank to move my “fun” funds so I can pay for it. I am excited to have won this chance. Thanks again to all who made this possible especially Jason and Nelson.
Looking forward to building. Don’t know yet what I will use as a pre or even speakers. It’s going to be a fun and interesting challenge to build a system around this. An excellent centerpiece I must say.

I also got my email, and placing the order went super smooth. I also found shipping reasonable, for both the kit and the chassis.

It will be very interesting to compare this amp with my old F6, driving my diy transmission lines.

Huge thanks to Jason, Papa, and the rest of the team for making this happen. I am very grateful to be a part of it.

I just got finished with the store, donation included, now the excitement starts waiting for delivery.I will take pictures of the kit and my build and post them. This has been a really exciting process.Good luck to those of you in the next round.

I am one of the very fortunate few and would like to extend my thanks to Nelson (as always), Jason, Jim and everyone else who made this opportunity possible. Making a contribution towards the fight against prostate cancer and for suicide prevention was icing on the cake. Nicely done, folks.

Regards,
Scott

Ordered mine along with some of that swanky new solder. Also, whoever made the initial suggestion and whoever implemented the "tip" to add a little extra for the charities are brilliant.

Exceptionally smooth process from beginning to end.

Thanks to all!
