Jason, just wondering how you and your colleagues will deal with the "data processing": how will you determine the number of tickets for each participants (number of participated threads in the Pass Labs forum, years of payed subscription to diyAudio)? Will this be done by some database script magic, or will you have to do this "manually"?
Also, how (and when) will you inform participants if they did (not) win a kit? I am not sure if it would be wise to just publicly post a list of the winners.

Wanna know your chances to win at lottery?
We have every reason to be excited but should keep our expectations at bay.
There are 1542 entries. About 1000 are newbies with just one ticket. Moderator Pano said that he alone had to approve 500 newbie posts and other moderators the same. Let’s assume there are 1000 single ticket entries.
About 300 are regular Pass Labs forum participants. Let’s assume that they have 100 tickets each on average. Rest are members that don’t post often in the Pass Labs forum section so let’s assume the have 15 tickets on average. So, there are about 35.000 tickets for the first lottery run. There are 90 amplifiers or 389 tickets per one kit.
Your chances are personal ticket number / 389. In example for me it is 13/389 = 0.033 or 3.3%. Not terrible but I don’t have high hopes.
Everyone having 400 tickets is almost guaranteed to win but, keep in mind that laws of probability provide that someone with just one ticket will win as well, while there could be that someone with 400 tickets will lose.

A very professional job with the lottery - well done!
The more I'm finding out about this project, the more I'm blown away by the attention to detail and effort put in.

Hello old friend...
I think it's done. There are 4 member input streams: post entries, off-site entries, fixes, cheats. A mix of scripts and SQL then sanitizes, analyzes and calculates the tickets. Looking pretty good now. I'm going to have some close diyAudio friends here audit the finished list tonight while I get some sleep and double check my figures.
The published plan is to contact winners privately, not publish the winner list, and slowly recycle tickets that don't get used or are passed up.
I feel that this is a bit of a long and slow wait for people to learn if they have won a slot or not. I have no idea at this stage how many people will decide to pass or give up their slot when it comes time to pay. There might be quite a few.
As a counter-point, I feel there may be a riot if I don't publish the winner list as soon as it's done. I'm happy to be transparent, but I'm also a private person and want to be respectful of other people's privacy as well.
Regards quantities - 87 will be released to ship, 3 kept in case of shipping problems for resends. When the first 87 have arrived, the other 3 will be made available. Nobody wants to find out they have "won" then have a shipping problem and never receive their unobtainium.
The calculations have taken longer than expected, but I'll sleep on this and make a post tomorrow afternoon. Don't expect anything for another 24 hours.
I know this is quite nerve-wracking for the 1,429 people who have entered. I think the best thing to say right now is that:
- I will try to give everyone closure as soon as possible
- I will provide as much information as makes sense, while respecting people's privacy
- If in doubt, I will do things as explained in the rules page, which is to slowly contact winners until all the slots have been consumed.
Hi Jason,
I never managed to get redirected to the page to post my interest even after 45 minutes and 29 seconds. I have a screen grab of it too. :-( Can I still be part of the lottery draw?

jason i want also say thank you for your effort and a big thx to all who helped to make this happen.
i want to donate to the prostate cancer foundation.
will we make a group donation (question for all participants in this group) and donate as a group, or should we make it by our own?
thx again and cu

Sorry to hear this. Please send the screenshot to contact@diyaudio.com with the details.

If you donate via an eventual store link, it won't be tax deductible for you. If that's important to you, please donate directly to the charities.
If you want to donate to the store, which will donate 100% of received funds to the charity as a group donation, I will be making a link available in the coming days and publish it. Then any donations accumulated will be donated in one go. Thank you.
I have only built the 6/24 from Pass and hoping to build the Sony vfet! I am in the lottery, I had to setup alarms as it was late night here 🙂 The site crashed but the problem was foreseen and I had a google form with an authentication code. I think it all worked out and I got my ticket. Thanks to everyone involved once again.
Lottery entry
Hi Jason,
I was in the list for "pending verification via Google Entry" . I do not see my name showing up in the list of verified entries. Could you confirm I am in. I believe I do meet all requirements😉
Thanks,
Robin
EDIT: I see you are validating the off site entries today! Maybe my question was too soon, apologies.

How did I not see that there was a second window at 'gentleman's hours' for us on this side of the world?
Managed to miss both
Managed to miss both

I must say, it was very tough for me not to participate...but with the nice SS present on its way and my diy Sony Vfet I'm enjoying every single day, I feel already very fortunate and did not feel entiteled to participate (alltough I am looking for a special SE design). I did however follow it very closely (10pm and 10am local time) and felt the thrills 🙂. The organisation was just perfect and I'm certain it represents a lot of work invisible for the majority of us! Thumbs up for that and a big thank you to you all!
I do have some mixed feelings about the high number of new participants, but I'm certain it has been well considered... and I'm not a very active member myself.
I could resist 2 times... I will do my best to also resist the 3rd and 4th time. I wish all good luck to the future owners, I hope all kits will be put to good use and not only be considered as collector items or 'investment'. Yes, this writing was therapeutic and needed... 😉

Kindly use this thread to discuss anything about the lottery or distribution process.
To keep the main discussion thread on-topic, posts in that thread that would be better situated here will (slowly) be moved here.
----------------------------------------
How to enter:
- Read the VFET Store Information Page
- Please go to diyaudio.com/vfet before the window opens
- You will be automatically redirected to the right thread 1-6 minutes after the lottery opens, to help spread server load. Please wait to be redirected. Thank you for your compassion!
- Post one short and sweet message ("In!" is fine...). Please wait until the window closes before making another post in the forum.
We're taking a "Hope for the best, plan for the worst" approach. We'll be monitoring the server and if it has any issues, the event will be extended until there's a full 15 minutes without issues. Additionally, if our database connection limit is hit (which prevents the server from overloading), you'll be provided an off-site link to enter.

Further reading and discussion:
I was curious how many more entries would come in during the second window...looks like only a couple hundred.
I see 1543 posts...at least two to four was Jason opening and closing the thread.
Scratching my head and speculating over what the odds of a win might be.
If everyone had a single ticket and there was one amp kit it would be 1 in 1540ish.
There are 180 kits...is that a 1 in 8.5ish chance if all entries had one ticket?
Of course that is not the case and there are varying multi-ticket entries...that just makes my head hurt.
Good luck to everyone.

I am not going to lose any sleep over trying to figure out the odds of winning one, at least I have a chance.
Thanks to all who made this possible.
