What is everyone talking about safety concerns, isn’t this a diy electronics site? Fearless amp builders? Building cables seems like about the safest thing we do here, unless your here building speakers....your diy cables look great btw it just stuns me that no one wants to admit MOST of what we do here is for looks or for fun or both
I mean it would be kind of like showing off a metalworking project on YouTube and telling people it’s OK to operate an angle grinder without its guard.

Because as described it doesn't appear to be using materials rated for such use (aka 'mains power') or built in a way consistent with quality safety regulations, and is therefore not fit for purpose. Most people would think that is a good reason for having reservations. You don't mess about when it comes to mains. You use materials rated for it, applied in a manner suited to it, or you leave it well alone.

One more quick question: the Belden 19364 appears to be legit for this purpose. What do you guys think?
Yes indeed. 🙂 It's a shielded mains lead designed for that purpose and properly rated. An excellent choice. As others have said, have a look at hospital grade connectors too -for obvious reasons, legitimate ones tend to be of a high standard.

What is it really like then? Other than something being plugged into the mains made out of materials not rated for such use?
Are you a code inspector? Do the brilliant professional factories in China meet every code presented to them? Have you tested his cables to prove they either not not meet code or pose a fire danger? To get to your position you have made many assumptions, how many of them are correct? BTW are all codes the same in every country? What’s the difference between UL listed and reg? Did you know UL and all the other certifications are private companies with (capitalist) agendas?

I suspect it would not be any different then if that cable was hooked up to a homemade none UL listed amplifer...i hate to tell you but an insurance company doesn’t even want you looking at this site
Your twisted cable looks single insulated where double insulation is required. And I do not believe that your taping is accepted additional insulation.

Just curious since everyone is so sure, can you tell me what code or cert these would not meet? Do you know the volt/amp rating of the hookup wire? Connectors? Is heatshrink etc required by code? Are these government standards or private companies who came up with these codes?
I appreciate all the replies. While I feel that the quality of my work is pretty high, it is NOT based on any safety criteria. Hence my question on the subject. Honestly I'm confident the cable is fine except for the various twisting/bending forces under normal use. I haven't a clue what sort of stress the conductors are under given that they're twisted, braided, and then have 5 layers of stuff wrapped around them. So I'll go with the Belden and use the existing cables (I have 2) to make massive XLRs....because I don't know what else to do with them lol. But, fear not, I haven't not given up on fire hazards! My DIY amps are in daily use and I plan on building more 🙂
obviously you lack a basic understanding of safety regulations otherwise you would know that the essential requirements are quite similar over the word. Yep that’s why no one knows the standard, UL charges big $ for it and has changed it many times in the last few years, do you think they make companies pay every time they change the standard? And how can a person say something is non compliant without having the definition for compliance? To go on some more, if UL was interested in safety and not it’s insurance company capitalist agenda why wouldn’t all safety standards be free and publicly available?
