Just imagine the improvement you would experience if you remove both the 5532 (shock, horror) and the transformer. When i think about it i really envy you 🙂
Most of the music you can buy and listen to went through a small mountain of 5532/5534. Nothing wrong with it, though I wouldn't recommend the Texas Instruments variant.
And most studio people love transformers... ;-)
What sits after your DAC in the chain?
//
Like I wrote, the DAC currently goes directly into the power amp, no passive attenuator.
I went through the filters via a headphone amp some time ago and didn't like the linear filters either, BTW.
Some people just prefer NOS! Not sure about transformer coupled vs op-amp though. I only own one jensen transformer coupled DAC and it does sound quite nice.
Have you tried running the DAM straight out if the ladder into the power amps? No OPamps, no trafo. Just 600 ohms resistive out.

No, the power amp is not designed to receive unbalanced signals. I could try connecting ground output to - input, but it's not ideal. The transformer is a known quantity to me, I have designed circuits around it before and it measures the same in terms of frequency/phase response and better than the balanced output regarding distortion. I checked this yesterday and was able to null both signals pretty well. But the op amp output exhibits a high end harshness that shows up in the differential signal.
I can confirm from my past experience that zero feedback amplifiers in the output stage can also change preference of DAC filters.Ok, just curious... so after installing the transformer, you changed your preference for filters?

Hi tnt I really liked your last filter, can I still use it after I have updated and installed the 4K firmware for dam1121 firmware and filters rev 1.21?

Pretty sure that, no..
I think so, it's based on the latest filter file format but the filter only utilises 2k of the 4k possible taps.

I will try and put in back because I like it better than the stock 4k one that comes with the latest vers, I mean I like the sound of the current one but to me there is a strange feeling that instruments are pushed forward overshadowing the artist at times.

Ah, got it.
yes im going to try itYou run my filter on a 4k enabled DAM?
//
Well, its basically the same as upgrading.

#1803 with DC filter, #1833 without.
If in doubt or you don't know/understand... -> #1803.
You dont read the thread? 😉
