I can't fault Nelson Pass in that regard, no attempts to pull the wool over people's eyes, he's wise enough to know it's not necessary, that's his USP, no hearing v measurement BS so prevalent in this thread and much of the "high end" audio industry
Then some people are doomed to forever be chasing the latest 'Best DAC ever' when perhaps it's already been made, EOL'd and only available on ebay once in a blue moon.
Would kind of take the fun out of things?
There is a rumour of a story about differences in perceived bass, or maybe I dreamt it.........IIRC the implication was that it's true but a secret but it was never revealed why it was a secret, very mysterious....
Those of us that build dacs don't care what you think. We do judge you more harshly that you judge us, but don't expect you to care either.
If we have sufficiently dispensed with the off topic chatter, how about we talk about AK4499 now. It sounds good with NJM7805 in the right places.

You have no interest in learning about dacs that I can see. If you did you would be happy to learn offline.
I'm exceedingly good at bedtime stories, been doing it for the last 23 years! But it's clear this thread has descended into camp fire story telling and subjective hell, so nothing I can learn hear.
Bass or other things that people might confuse with FR when we know FR is measurably flat.
Bill, We need to be able to say 'better' or 'worse' when there is no way to express in words exactly how something sounds. That's simply because we don't have a shared vocabulary for everything we can hear.
It's not "better" though is it, just different, for different preferences for different people in different moods listening to different music to sell different DACs
I disagree. There are some things that are 'better' to 90% of listeners. Often its more accurate than one can do with measurements.
Of course, some people are not methodical listeners. Not my problem if you can't figure out who to trust.
My problem is I can't tell how something sounds from measurements alone. If you had a few dacs to compare that measure about the same, you would see what I mean. But, you don't. Sorry, can't help you there.
To learn what will happen next I suggest you carefully read the rules.
Absolutely true, there is just a pretence that there is something to be learned.
