Dave from Moncton. Funny story back in the 70's I was on an extended motorcycle trip through the Atlantic provinces of Canada, which by the way are outstanding places to visit. My friend and I like many 20 somethings ate cheap. McDonalds being one place we ate at alot.
I had been feeling poorly for at least 24 hours prior to Moncton. Parked our bikes and had lunch at McDonalds. I had been in and out of the restroom and finely told my friend I would wait outside at the bikes. When he can out I was in so much pain I said call for help. So he tells the store manager I needed help, which the manager was not happy I was sick in the parking lot.
Anyway, medics arrive and as I lie on the grass looking up, this smiling Canadian face looks down at me and says, "having a big Mac attack".
So that's my memory of Moncton. A very nice place.

+100 CaptnDave!

I don't get people who say "let it play out." Letting it play out is hundreds of millions of deaths around the world, and not just those infected with the virus. Let's say system7 is healthy and isn't going to die from the infection but, oops has a bad accident that requires a bed in the ICU in order to live. Uh oh, all ofthe ICU beds are full and the ventilators are in use with COVID-19 patients and unavailable. Buh bye!

@ Phase, Yup : Redisgn to save vs Redesign to cost 🙂 Needs also comodities and supply chain still work.

The best is still to give your masks to medical staffs if you want to make your duty and stay home the most you can (I think people get it).

To illustrate what Bwaslo said some posts above : I think people will be tested after a first confinment period to free them as we go towards 5 to 6 weeks confinment windows.

So little by little, economy will continue and reborn (people with antibodies at desks again): the point is to help the most of people not to overflow hospitals and also save lifes of medical staffs and workers which are on the battle front everyday. Not the moment for a footing if you don't work and in a lock-down area, time to respect them by limiting the flowding. People beginn to understand the sense of PHYSICAL distanciation (as social is not the good word as we need to have social relation to work, to research, to cure people, etc). But at the fod shop it's a duty to respect the distance... whatever your have masks, gloves (that are no effecient and still dangerous as you don't know really to manipulate it safly)

Someone talked bout russian roulete, it's not acurate if you take risks... you play not with one bulet but with several in the same gun : you, emergency transportation, nurse, doctors, reanimators, and their families... It was called one week ago the B. J. roulette : you play with an AK-47 full of bullets 🙁

So I understood the tests will be little by little rare in the big area to save them for checking at ends of confinment periods : it makes sense as randomising is not efficient and you may need many tests by personns. As already said it is safe to say than masks and tests should be for medical places and doctors in the cities and infected people in these places. You keep a mask for you and it's rare : you add a bulett in the ak-47 !

Not what I observe... not about generations but more education... while for the oldest, see some despite excellent education have difficulty to get it : mostly because their mind is switching off : deny, too much shocked, prefer the TV, the book that to follow the everyday news from my limited experience till now. Have to correct some "youngers" about security distance in food shops as well. Typically there are open mind people and people in a bublle whatever the bubble. I don't try to understand more than this, I try to follow the informtions and made already some errors here printing some not acurate things or too partial... so difficult question you ask... X geeration seems to me more risky for them and others, the last ones have calming down a little (looks like more than the people between the two WW and searching for models like the Xs....hybrids sort of.

If you need to forget all this for a while, on the sidebar of the youtube page Steve linked to(the Julie Andrews bit) there is a link to an hour-and-some Sammy Davis Jr concert from '79 in Australia.

Some musical theater stuff and then Sammy does his thing- which is some of everything, even the theme from 'Baretta'(great bass line and Sammy beatboxing-in'79!).

In my non-medical-educated mind, I'd think that something that would be really valuable would be to have a test that could show if someone already has already had Covid-19, but has recovered (with immunity). So people could know if they are safe to go help people who are or might be infected with it. Give a little more distance for people who might still be susceptible to it. Or is that not possible, or maybe not all that useful?

Bill -- we talked about this earlier, and it's very definitely something everyone wants. The trouble is the difficulty to get a good test.

Puts on Historical Hat. 😎

This is not the first time Humankind have faced a near-extinction event.

Bubonic Plague was a biggie back in the day. The dumb C14 response was to cull alleyway cats and dogs which actually kept the Rattish plague-carriers down. Actually it was the fleas that lived on them that carried Plague. But nobody got it.

We Oldies still say "Bless You!" when somebody sneezes, some sort of Folk memory.

These are serious times. We have the "Spanish Flu" epidemic of 1918 before us.

But the prospect of 12 months shutdown in our Economy is intolerable. I would die of boredom. 😱

AFAIK, the tiny Coranavirus is a very small and vulnerable molecule surrounded by a thin fatty layer.

Hence 20 seconds of soapy hand washing just destroys it. 😀

The problem, it seems to me, is not the virus, but our fellow Simians who don't wash their hands.

For all that, if you eat bats and frogs and all those sort of creepy things, you are just on your own... 😕

What have you got against Frog Legs?

Frog legs were on sale at Food Lion today.

Na, even at $7.95/# was too much. I will go gigging later in the year.

Chicken was limited to two per shopper at 4.99/# for tenders. No thighs, no whole chicken. Wings were $5.95/#. too rich for me.

On the other hand they had frozen turkey breast for $1.69/#. I got an 8# breast for dinner tomorrow.

I wouldn't say the plague was a near extinction level event. There's no evidence to suggest that it had any effect on the Americas (north, south or central.) It's thought that up to 80% of natives died of infectious diseases after 1498. For some reason that's never thought of as worth mentioning.

I wouldn't worry too much about the economy. You may not be able to get that 65" flat screen, that vacation or even be able to afford a car any longer...but when you think about it we still live like Kings use to live back in the day...I just don't want to be homeless. That would suck....

Frog legs are good! Small, and you need a lot of them....but good food.

And those old people (the greatest generation.) What have they ever done for us? What sacrifices have they ever made for the common good? None! (at least not lately! LOL)
I think maybe we can find it in our hearts to sacrifice a little for them...
