Perhaps it's time to revise the sensibility of implementing Tabloid journalism?
Alternative Journalism - Communication - Oxford Bibliographies

They're keeping to tabloid journalism because it's what helped sell more papers, now with the modern day use of news sources it's just too much. And actual proper journalism where they look long and hard at the cases are few and far between. In-depth analysis is hardly happening at all.
But this is perhaps material for a different thread.

While not technically robust, it's good to remember Hanlon's razor in these times. No one, especially technically lay journalists* have a good grasp what's going on so speculation flies fast and without much profound thought.

Hanlon's razor - Wikipedia

*they can't be experts at everything and ignorance definitely shows through, although in general the desire to make compelling story oftentimes gets in the way of telling a less biased version of reality. Reading almost anything from non-technical press in my domain of expertise leaves me wondering how they got so confused.

P.S. Thanks diyiggy for the re-link. I think we've moved past that as a leading idea (looking around) but I wonder how anyone could have thought that was a good idea.

Just heard that an uncle is in the hospital with low oxygen, confirmed case, as well as another friend of the family.
So yeah it’s all hype and media BS until it’s not.

Our parents aren’t taking it too seriously either, even called them last week and told them about things that hadn’t happened yet. Now they have happened, and their risk has been elevated since they didn’t prepare.

We're completely closed off now, not even Sweden is allright anymore.
In todays news, new temporary rules to help keep people where they should be:
You get a 15 000 NOK fine for being at your cabin, almost 1500 USD.
20 000 NOK if you're breaking quarantine, going outside your "kommune" (unless it's work related), which is about the local equivalent of county.

Canada just closed it's borders to foreigners except US. Given that most of the cases in Ontario came from the US, they basically didn't do anything. I hope they don't regret that.

That may be coming. JT spoke to DT yesterday. JT said they spoke about border issues and DT said they did not.

Seeing as how things are going I'm thinking they did. And I've got an idea what JT might have said and why DT would rather not talk about it....

I've just seen a BBC story that says two patients who recovered from Covid19, have been retested and test positive for the virus. Again.

Is this just a random story, false positive, false recovery from Covid19?

Or does it mean 'immunity' is only very temporary?

Also, the Indian Gov decision to band export of paracetamol....
And Trump seeking to acquire the first breakthrough treatment for the US?

Instead of pulling together, its "every man for himself".

Disgusting!

don't aware of the recent exchanges betwen Merkel & trump ? gogle it ! Anyway as already said it will last some months before any vaccine to be found. Like Ebola, you will not have problem I beleive to get it whereever you live. Africa have managed with sucess their crisis with WHO help and industries. No reason to panic for food, etc : just do your duty with social distanciation... that's what Media should focus , rest is noise.

^ there's been a few cases of later tests turning positive after an earlier negative. Not sure what the timeline on your story is, but it could have everything to do with the viral load/immune response ebbing and flowing above/below the sensitivity of the COVID-19 test. Measuring positive in a week or two out from being cleared of a disease strongly suggests that the disease was present the entire time, and immunity was not achieved.

Trump will run into absolutely massive regulatory brick walls with that effort. Blow as hard as he may...

As far as NSAIDs, Tylenol/acetaminophen or otherwise, it's almost always best to limit usage to the least amount possible. Now in times of over-demand (rather than scarcity, necessarily), hoarding is not helpful. Edit to add: I'm not suggesting anyone here is doing that.

I only bought one bottle of Tylenol. It is the 650mg arthritis version and a 100 count. So, that should work out to an adequate supply for the two of us.

My two freezers are usually 80% full and my cupboards stay at least the same. After work today I will make one more stop at Wal Mart to pick up some canned vegetables and start working from home.

Time to hunker down.

I would think it's just a stopgap, and the border will close to US citizens excepting those transporting goods soon. Similar to how AB kept schools open longer, but when they finally cancelled classes they had a plan for duration of school year.

I have enough stuff in the house to keep my beer kegs full for about a year or more. Freezer full, "the store" as my wife dubbed it, has a nice selection of dried goods, potatoes and rice for probably 14 days. Only 5-6 kg's of flour which is "worryingly low" for my in-house baking addict.

That should do I think.
In the UK it is illegal to sell more than 32 (2 packs of 16) of 500mg in any single purchase. Something to do with potential death through liver failure in case of an overdose. So you bought more tabs in one tub than I got when I bought 6.

Very strange. As Gimp implies, in the US it is hard to find less than 100 tabs/bottle, and the 650 dose has pushed-out the 500 dose. Yes, there may be a purse-pack of a dozen costing as much as a bottle of 100, but they really want us to buy LOTS!!

And yes, Tylenol overdose is tricky because you don't feel much sick for a couple days, and then you die. But 16 of the 500 is right up there, far beyond the max recommended.

I have a bottle of 100 that I will not use. Not ready to put it to auction yet :snooty:

It's not just the tabloids either. The biggest newspaper in Finland does exactly the same thing. Fear mongering, minute by minute pointless statistics that help absolutely no-one but rather fuel the panic and hoarding of pointless crap like toilet paper. I used to think their journalism was OK-ish as far as modern journalism goes, but now they're just simply milking it.

Funny how we have thousands and thousands of people dying of very simple to treat diseases, famine and all sorts of pointless stuff every single day, and no-one bats an eye, but now that there's the miniscule chance someone nearby dies of this apparently apocalyptic death ray from hell, the entire world stops. In the 80's we had HIV and people were actually mocking gay men who got AIDS and openly called it "faggot plague" as in they deserved to get it. Only weeks ago no-one gave a toss about COVID-19 because it was just a bunch of Chinese people that were affected. Now there's a huge outcry for solidarity?
