Can you elaborate? I thought that existed only within the family unit?cultural values around collective good.
Maybe a reason for getting at least a few weeks worth of basic food would be in the event that things progressed beyond the suggestion to isolate, to a recommendation to, or even something that could happen after calling the National Guard in to help. Oh wait, that last part already happened around here yesterday. Maybe they’re just here to welcome everyone.
If some areas that have better health care facilities than we have here are in trouble, maybe we should actually hunker down for awhile and stop driving around buying wine and other crap.
The demographics suggest that the 20-30 year olds are quite cavalier and mingling as usual, then likely giving it to others.
I went out much earlier, expecting to have found not much at the local store in the way of storable food, but to my surprise, there were dried foods available, as people had cleaned out the non nutritious and perishable items instead. Saved me driving to another ethnic market that is overlooked, and well stocked in the items.
I’m just not entirely trusting when Pence says something like it’ll be ok, we have 2,500 test kits available...

today the govt in uk announced they were asking JCB to start making extra ventilators for hospitals. Yeah I can see swapping from diggers to medical grade equipment will be a mornings work for them.
Well that was a smart move to go to those places, wasn't it?
Jan
All but one of the cases in TN are 150 miles west of me or greater. The one known case in Sullivan county was a traveler from outside the US who is in quarantine.
Most cases are nearly 470 km away.
It is over 800KM from one side of my state to the opposite side. Our states are like European countries.
Low risk at this point.
From now on, I will hunker down.

Hydraulics/pneumatics?
Yeah, it's always interesting when you find out all the other little weird and wonderful things big companies are also making. Things that quite possibly came about through an acquisition where they wanted a technology portfolio to expand the core business and required forming a subsidiary to maintain prior contracts. In all cases, we as a global community are gonna need them.
As research staff at the hospital I work not related to Covid-19, we are mandated to work from home as much as absolutely possible. My colleagues and I are setting up days to use instruments so we don't have to physically cross paths. Gotta do what we have got to do.

Filling someone's lungs with oil at high pressure is hardly helpful. I've been round the JCB production line and its good old fashioned hairy arsed men with big lumps of oily metal. Not my first choice for medical equipment.
Seems coherent with the "keep calm and carry on" policy. Not my first choice for medical equipment.
My 13 year old dog eats only human food. It's just seasoned differently. It's a lot of work but he's a member of the family so never too much work. Remember: If there are no dogs in heaven... 🙂I mean, really, You can feed your pet with human food if you must.
-1º, the sugars will prevent it from freezing. Either that or toss in some Prague powder. 😉 wink, wink.Is there some trick to preserve milk I never learned?
Best used for cooking. There is an ultra-pasturized milk with very long shelf life.
I took the kids for a walk in the office park where I work this morning. fresh air, feed the swans etc. Driving back noticed the queue to get into the costco carpark was over half a mile long. It would appear all the govt messages not to panic buy have just encouraged people who missed out on the first wave.
Crowding in supermarkets is perfect for virus dissemination.
Here in the Lombardy region the corona death toll is 252. Since yesterday...

I did wonder if the card payment pinpad might be the #1 vector out there as everyone touches it!
There is an ultra-pasturized milk with very long shelf life. We keep a jug in the house just in case the store backs up with milk that expired last week, or the chance that we and the supply chain might shut-down for a while.
Nevermind feeding the dogs people-food. If all the truckdrivers are on ventilators WE may be eating the DOG food. We have 50+ pounds in house. It is hard on people-kidneys but what isn't? A few minutes with well-water so it goes over our poor teeth.
Are you referring to the shelf stable stuff? Around here it is irradiated. Shelf stable for over 6 months.
Here in Serbia we are preparing for COVID-19 main impact...until now 46 registered and 0 dead, but in a few days think we gonna have exponential growth, hope not like in Italy.

What makes you think UHT milk is irradiated, it isn't?
😱.. the cow came from Kobe !
Just hope they didn't buy Tchernobyl wheat flour... Fear the Walking Bread !

Lest you forget, we were both irradiated with Strontium 90 and Iodine 131 back in the day! Probably worse in WI than OH.
(We've had a frightful adverse mortality amongst Fordham's chem and physics majors of the era, my lab partner Betsy died in her early 40's)
