Hi amigo,

I am looking for a good Android phone, with the best possible DAC un der 200$ (second hand OK).

What about HTC10, LG G7 or LV30 or maybe other ?

I need to drive some floor speakers 2.5 way @93DB / 120W RMS

My setup :

- External AK4497 dual DAC
- TPA3255 Amplifier

Audio Sources :

- Quboz streaming HD Audio.

Could you please help from your experience ?

I just picked up a LG V20 to use as a DAP. I picked the V20 over the V30 for the replaceable battery. Since both are older, they are relatively cheap. Bought my v20 for around $100 for open box, but it was brand new. V30 should also be in your budget.

I'm really using it as a DAP, for background music and walking around, works great so far, but just got it late last week. I read somewhere the V30 sounds better, for my use the 20 is fine.

To be honest, for a home system I'd go another way. But I'm really happy with the v20, listening to it now.

I rooted mine so I could load in oreo so I could choose bluetooth codecs, but if no bluetooth than running it stock with nougat should have been fine. Without a sim battery life was bad until I turned on airplane mode then turned back on wifi and bluetooth.

The need for a phone with an excellent build-in dac wasn't clear to me as there was already an external dac. :) The LG phones were on my initial list too when I needed to change phones. However, cheap skate as I am, I opted for a Xiaomi A2 phone with lots of storage, with below average audio quality build-in, and an external dac.

Are you feeding the external dac with a USB cable (OTG) from the android phone?

Assuming this must be the case, check out USBAudioPlayerPro (around $7) and upgrade to the HiRes driver. This improves most android phone audio output and can be be used with any decent android phone.

+1 :)
Phones, tablets, TV boxes, even Android x86 laptops ... just about anything that runs android and not even a recent version..
I think somewhere I have a tablet running Jellybean and USBAudioPlayerPro

i bought LG V20 refurbished item few months ago for around $110, it seems from USA market. like brand new but with very low microphone issue, however i don't use it for phone call and no sim card inserted

i also bought additional batteries, the 1st Android that i have with removable battery. it has quad dac and powerful processor, very happy to use it as gaming device for CoDM :D

the camera is above average and has metal body (i hate every phone with plastic body like it's successor V30/V40/V50). you got more than what you paid for $110

btw i'm using spotify premium, i have copied my wav collection and buy Neutron audio player but for convenience it can't beat spotify

i use it to listen music in the office (i sit almost all the time from 9am - 6pm). i build diy headamp, custom trs cable and drive sennheiser HD650

my primary phone Huawei Nova 2i bought brand new a few years ago is too much inferior to LG V20, but the fact that their original price differ 4x

THanks for the feedback.
LG V30 and G7 support MQA via TIDAL... what about V20 ?

Any idea if the HTC 10 supports the MQA audio experience ?

loseless audio providers like Tidal/Qobuz are not available in my country, i'm just waiting for spotify releasing its loseless format. so i have no clue about mqa support on v20

btw i also have hifiman hm601 dap but its interface is sucks, not even a match to Android.

i'm using LG V20 just for headphone and office usage, easy listening. for home i have cdp and other more serious gears. at home i only use V20 for gaming :)

The Quad DAC in the G7 is only operational when you connect to the 3.5mm jack and explicitly enable it in the settings menu.

It does not work for external USB DACs or Bluetooth.

I burnt my G7s DAC chip (or output caps) when it received -12VDC from the amp. Uninsulated heatsink, my bad.

That is interesting to know.
Do you know if there is any Audiophile grade Mobile phone in the market that allows to use its internal DAC via the Bluetooth with APTX support ?
