John Curl's Blowtorch preamplifier part IV

The absolute numbers are slightly down on the others but it's still in the ball
park and they've obviously sacrificed numbers for a reason.

The DAC's architecture looks very good from a perspective of offering
plenty of analog stage options. It likely will pick up where BB left off, we will
see.

TCD

Or they just failed at beating AKM or ESS on specs and now have to reposition their marketing strategy. You know, Rohm mainly makes second source / low end stuff that is very cheap. Their "high speed" op-amp category tops out at 10 MHz GBW.

Where BB left off? I don't know all the details but it looks like yet another delta-sigma converter. Certainly nothing to get excited about.

I blame ESS for igniting this fashion converter nonsense.

Yah you presumed correctly.....

I really don’t see a problem with spending three or four grand a year on audio......if it’s a passion and it exudes joy then wth.

Some people spend more than that on speaker cables!

Plus I recoup some of the losses when I sell something I’m done with or upgraded from.

I wonder what the average audio hobbyist spends in a year?
Three or four grand a year??? Are you kidding me???

Kindergarten.. Tools, need tools. Bucks?? No worry.:D
Played with my new four jaw chuck and lathe plate today, made some chips and had some fun.

Claim it's for retirement.. Yah, right. Having fun at work, having fun in the basement. Might consider actually putting a sound system in my living room again..not sure though.

In any case, life is first..

You are trying to equate matured technology like DACs, amps, cables to things like human genome, medicine and space travel, the technologies that are in their infancy.

A view from the gallery..................

EH, are you implying that there is nothing more to be achieved in the design of DAC's and amplifiers?
And are you implying that those who design DAC's and amplifiers are just wasting their time?
Your constant and repetitive posting in this vein leads me to ask you these questions.

OK. First... I dont find those are an extraordinary claims.

WE said we heard same difference between one with and one without. Mark thought the without was better. Where is the extraordinary claim in that?

Live voice vs repo voice comparison.... Nothing extra ordinary in that either. Done all the time by recording personnel.

Sounding worse with 16/44 as freq goes up with transient signals (not continuous sine waves) is not a new first expose. Nothing extraordinary about that either with 16/44.
Nothing extraordinary about AES 24/96 sounding more accurate.
Ordinary in your own bubble, of course.

I agree with the observations of others with respect to your statements. It is quit obvious what I am saying. That you choose to ascribe entirely different things is your choice, and an obvious diversion.

I simply said, most designs do not control the current paths. As a result, bad things happen. I do not care if it is audible, that is for others to decide.
OK, so that (in bold) is your motto. I wonder why you try to engage in discussions on audio forums. :scratch2:

I choose to discuss the actual technology. If you wish to argue audibility, you will have to find somebody else.
When you don't adhere to any particular point about audio, your discussion would be pointless on forums about audio equipment.

You left out a word I repeated many times. I wonder why... :troll:

Esperado, Richard, your attention to my life, career, knowledge, occupation, intellect, motivations, etc... is much appreciated. Do I need to report anything else to make your day more pleasant? Perhaps the shoe size would be of any interest or relevance for you? I’m an 11, FWIW.

Otherwise, I’m now fully aware of your motto:

I have said enough that, for me, and unlike you, truth is a meaningless word.

Amen to this. Pretty much closes any discussion.

OK. Truce. I think you got the message. Tone it down and help us in the details.

I myself left the research and project coordination world (bubble?) for the reason you gave... for more money.

I haven't been involved in the engineering details for decades (can you tell?). Too busy making money and other new interests.

I have many interests which I can contribute more. Always on a macro-conceptual-intellectual arena.

Going to Chang Mai and Mendeley soon. Just returned from the jungles near DaNang, VietNam. Dense and impenetrable.

If I live long enough, between other adventures, I might get my music system put together again. Better than ever.

Absolutely no help for you. You need to look elsewhere for free stuff to feed your business.

I’m sure T-E would be happy to help you with his amazing knowledge about CMAs, doubled by a Golden Ear of the finest audiophile quality. Check out his achievements in audio high end design.

Hahaha . Yeah alright. I will manage without you, Somehow. Life goes on.

So sad. But if you ever want to make money, call me. No dont.

In keeping with the Capitalist spirit "It's all for me and none for you".

From jungle mountain top near DaNang. Having fun. :)

Off topic but how is everyone treating the coronavirus threat there? Virology is one of my weird hobbies and it seems like Thailand should have many, many more cases than they are reporting.

I think this will be a very bad virus, at least economically. Seems to be far more contagious than SARS or MERS. It's not overly fatal but it's a slow-progressing virus and a significant percentage of patients will require ICU care. Significantly worse than Influenza A and the cat is out of the bag.

I was in Chang Mai just before the start of the Chinese exodus, end of last month, and the market square was allready filled with Chinese tourists. Decided on the spot to return to Europe. Stats are completely incredible, with only 34 cases reported (NYT). Or, and this could bide us time, the virus can only succesfully survive and find new victims in the damp and dark conditions of winter.
