Using the cheapest and most simple virtual ground split technique opposing the output resistor included in the feedback path and the infamous NE5532 driving it , multiple CMOS electronic switches and still getting the best sound you can get from TPA6120?!...

Multiplexers' faults can be hidden to a large extent by using them at the right spot, virtual ground aren't that bad if you use enough capacitance, ne5532 can be quite transparent used the right way, the tpa6120 is a pretty good part... For someone who knows what he's doing, everything is there for a good amp.

The guy who made the fine tuning for the Meze Empyrean headphones prompted me to RNHP telling that he was impressed with it...He's a musician too...so i delved into what i could find on the internet and i was baffled to see how that preamp solves all the problem that might arise in such an elegant and also a cheap way...cheap from a manufacturing point of view ...:)

Can you post a schematic?
it's only what i could guess from the pcb photos and Neve's site description about the "almost zero output impedance" :)

Very well. However, on what do you base your assertion that Neve has obtained the best sound possible out of the TPA6120, and so, has given the audiophile world a tough lesson? Is that only a specifications based opinion? Are there audiophile reviews somewhere? If not, is that opinion based on your own personal listening evaluation? Just looking to identify the basis of you assertion, aside from Neve's reputation in the professional mixing desk world.

He said it in post #5, didn't he ?

Otherwise:

And there's a very long thread about it on headfi obviously.

My best preamp is based on TPA6120...I tried anything you can do with tpa6120 , including RNHP type of wiring and it was very good on 32 ohms headphones. I kinda liked it more with just 1000 uF capacitors...not really dead about the base. My usual headphones though are 250 ohms and i usually use 10..20 ohms output resistor outside the feedback loop as with my headphones i like it a litle bit better ...I have no idea why on my headphones no "zero output resistance" solution works better and I tried that with many op-amps...RNHP capacitors in series with the driver gives a little bit of "air" to the headphones.I actually thought a lot if the unusual DF gained through total feedback isn't actually hurting with dynamic headphones ...So QSC Peter Quilter's technique proved useful once more.

He did? You mean, this?

"The guy who made the fine tuning for the Meze Empyrean headphones prompted me to RNHP telling that he was impressed with it...He's a musician too...so i delved into what i could find on the internet and i was baffled to see how that preamp solves all the problem that might arise in such an elegant and also a cheap way...cheap from a manufacturing point of view ..."

If so, perhaps, you would point out where, because I'm not seeing that in there.

Also, I looked at reviews you provided links to (thank you, for those), and while I read about how good a value the unit is, I didn't see anything suggesting that it was any sort of giant killer. So, the OP's thread title remains puzzling for me.

Debate about hyperboles aside, isn't the narrative clear enough here ? Someone the OP trust spoke to him very highly of the RNHP and the OP is surprised to see how mundane the internals are.

Which, from my point of view (which I'll admit is rather cynical and disillusioned when it comes to hifi gear) is anything but a surprise.

Meze guys test their headphones on a 10k $ Chord amp+dac...I had the chance for a week to talk with the guys there and see what they do.Well... Neve isn't just anybody in the audio recording industry either , is the one setting its clock. The guy speaking about RNHP didn't even know who's Neve...he needed to check a lot the internet to find that preamp just to show it.For me it wasn't a surprise to see someone impressed with a Neve product.Do you know many people that aren't pleased with Neve products once they can afford it?

It ain't worth much, but I bought one and sent it back almost same day.

Like I say -- it ain't worth much, just one guy's (pretty experienced) ears' experience. Especially here at a DIY forum, you learn to value the parts and circuits -- and figure that's where it's most sonically efficient to spend your $$.

That may or may not be true -- but if you're here, you probably believe it is......
